Sorry, I didn’t mean to say you did anything wrong to be in this position. I can see how it may have come off this way. It wasn’t my intent.I guess I was speaking in more general terms of site safety which you obviously know your way around but others might not. I saw some comments where people...
Hi,
Booking is a safe site to use, just do not respond to any messages that send you a link to verify your card, those are always scams.
If you use email or WhatsApp, you are essentially promising to show up and pay upon arrival. If you are subsequently asked to pay via a link…that could...
Hi! I also have an IPhone 14 and I’m from Canada where international plans are expensive.
Data plans in Europe are so much cheaper.
You could walk into any Vodophone (most of Europe?) or orange store (Spain) and ask them to add a local data plan to your phone. You can get 30Gigs for 30€ ish...
I didn’t book ahead for Irun. The plan was to stay at the municipal. It was moot though because my flights were delayed by an entire day so I started from San Sebastián instead. 😅
I recently finished The Norte and in Galicia alone, I did get several bug bites. In SDC, I got three of which turned into large annoying blisters. In Asturia, I was swarmed by mosquitoes and in one night, had over 100 bites. I had a couple dozen just on my face!
I know this is not the norm but...
I was just there in January and had the best meal/service at A Fuego Lento Bistró. It was reasonably priced and casual enough that we didn’t feel weird in our hiking clothes but elegant as well so it felt special.
It’s near the cathedral on Rua Vilar.
Both my camino Francés and Portuguese Brierley guides have been marked up heavily by me and passed to others who wanted a taste of the camino before walking themselves.
I hope he know that the hours and hours spent planning with the guides are an exciting part of the camino as a whole.
I had a very similar experience 5 years ago reuniting with friends in the square. All the same fears and none of them materializing. I’m glad to hear you had a great time.
Thank you for posting this! I’m walking the CdN in July/August and booked the first two nights but planning to wing the rest, maybe booking ahead on weekends if I’m going to end up in a popular place. The Deba news is funny! Luckily I take tons of photos naturally. Buen camino!
That’s great to know! I Google street view’ed the route and saw the barrier on the one side.
It seems a lot easier to just walk the 20 minutes that figure out transport. Glad to know it worked out!
Buen Camino! Did you book your first night or wander into the albergue and get a spot?
There is one small section with no sidewalk but there is a shoulder. No different to some of the scenarios you’ll find yourself in all along a camino. That said, you’ll be exhausted so if you don’t want to walk, it would be a very, very short taxi ride! I might end up doing the same!
Hi! I stayed in Atepuerca. Got to the hostel at 2, showered, laundered, etc and then I think around 5pm a bus showed up and drove us all out to the site. It’s a few kilometres away. The bus took us back about 1.5 hours later.there was a tour of the dig and then enough time to explore the...
