Pilgrim stabbed and attacked at knife point after Sacavem, was able to escape

Wow, this almost sounds like blaming the victims. The goal should be to make it safe for everyone all the time. No one should have to brave the risk of getting raped to walk the path. If there is a risk, everyone should be made aware so that they can avoid the area until it was made safe...

Pilgrim stabbed and attacked at knife point after Sacavem, was able to escape

This is not enough to just say sorry and move on. We need to work together to put pressure on the police to do something about this and find the perpetrator. Can we call or partition our respective embassy to put pressure on local law enforcement? I am angry for the victims and understand why...

Has anyone ever walked principally at night?

One of the days during my Camino, I got up around 3 am and started walking and was done by 10 am. It was one of the best walks I've had. The only issue was that the municipal Albergues we not open for check-ins, so I opted for a private pension for that night. Also, I did get a little...

Annie's Simple Life page....Pickpockets and Scams

Just have to be careful everywhere. I had an iPhone ripped out of my hand while I was using it in Oxford-street, London. Also, in a Camino Albergue, a bunch of us lost our phones when they were left plugged into the outlet overnight.

    Backpack in airline holds

Due to my walking stick, I had to check-in my backpack. In all cases, they put it in a sturdy plastic bag and it worked well.

    Express Bourricot vs. Train?

I took the train. It was a pleasant experience, and no negatives I can think of.

Resuming from Santa Domingo de la Calzada

This April I am planning to resume from where I left off back in 2013. I am flying out from San Francisco Bay Area to get to my previous stopping point of Santa Domingo. From what I can see, the best route may be a nonstop from Oakland Airport to Barcelona and take a train to Burgos and bus...

Comment by 'Jnlee99' in media 'Orisson'

If you are starting your journey from St. Jean Pied De Port, I would strongly suggest staying at Orisson. I arrived from US late eve and started walking the next morning with vigor (more enthusiasm than anything else) with little sleep, food, and full-on jet lag. I stopped at Orisson for a...

Lost my guidebook AND my shorts... adventures on the Camino Frances

Lost 7 pounds of fat, my smartphone (best example of blessing in disguise), most of my toe nails (eventually they fell off after the walk), lost my worries, stress and attachment to a clock (surprising how my bio-clock filled that gap quickly), and most importantly my initial hesitations about...

To go with my partner or go it alone???

I went by myself because my wife isn't into long hikes followed by albergues or village hotels; but it also suited me since I like the quietness of solo walking. However, I would have gladly trade the introspective time for my wife's company on Camino.

    Training advice.

This seems like an old post, so I am sure most of this has been rehashed multiple times, and this is not a training advise per se, but I wish someone has given me this advise before my Camino: "Walk in the boot/shoe you intended to wear for at least 40km within a week, and if you feel any hot...
