    Passport, Credencial and Certificate Care

My original credential from the Confraternity of St James in the UK came in a small plastic wallet which can be re-used for subsequent credentials/Caminos. I had it in an easily accessible zip pocket on the outside of my pack, and it was fine there.

    The countdown has started

I bought my Via Luisitania credencial from the albergue in Barcelos too, because I like to plan ahead! Delivered very speedily to the UK. And you can choose which of four pictures to have on the back. I chose the Se in Coimbra, happy memories of my Lisbon to Porto walk in 2018. AJ, I walked the...

    Reading while on the Camino

I decided to take my Kindle in both 2018 and 2019 and never regretted it, I got so much more reading done than I ever manage at home. In 2019, I actually got through all the new books I'd bought for the Camino so re-read some of the old ones on my Kindle. I decided to take the Kindle because at...

A little caminho history from central Portugal...

I had a rest day in Coimbra and spent a lovely day doing touristy things. The old University library and tower get my vote too. The Botanic Gardens were quiet and peaceful, and Portugal dos Pequenitos (a collection of miniature Portuguese houses, bits of famous buildings lumped together, and...

    Camino Cross-stitch designs anyone?

I got a copy of the basic Camino marker design from Ancora Crafts about a month ago and I am working my way through it now - it's very simple and so good for when you just want to fall into a meditative stitchy trance and sew without giving the matter too much thought. Great for the lengthy...

Your impressions on the walk from Lisbon?

I did the Lisbon to Porto section of the Portugues in June/July 2018. It was my first Camino and I loved it. I had the opportunity to walk through towns, villages and scenery that were so very different from home (which is the UK). I took some time out to explore the beautiful cities and...

Looking to buy secondhand Brierly guide to Camino Portugues

I have a 2017 version that you could have for free, but I am in the UK and I think you're in South Africa, and it could cost around £5 to send it to you (about 100 Rand?) and so there probably are cheaper options. But do let me know if you're interested.

The pastel de nata debate -- hot or room temp?

I love them! I had at least one every day when I did the Lisbon to Porto section last year. Always room temperature and always lovely, whether from a local cafe or bakery, or from shops like Continente. They are popular here in London too, and it was here that I had my only hot nata, at the Cafe...

    Advice

Hi there, The only section of Camino I have (yet!) done was from Lisbon to Porto in June 2018 so I can't compare to other Caminos. I enjoyed the opportunity to walk in solitude but yes, there were always other pilgrims about and I met some great fellow pilgrims in the private and municpal...

What did you forget that you would bring with you the second time?

I didn't forget it, but decided not to take any insect repellent to cut down on the pack weight. Big mistake - I spent the first ten days of the CP with insects feasting on me - what did they eat before I got there! So I had to buy some. Next time I'll have to try to leave some other stuff out...

Start of the Camino in Lisbon

The arrows do get a lot bigger! But you're right about the unobtrusive start, I'd never have found it if I hadn't already known where to look through reading the posts on this forum. Bom Caminho, you're going to have a fantastic time.

    Grijó accommodations

I stayed there on July 5 this year, and was the only one there. There was no problem getting in and I managed to communicate with the caretaker despite my lack of Portuguese. The facilities there were fine and I was certainly glad I had decided to break up the Sao Joao to Porto stage.
