OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Walking into Spain from Portugal

I will be walking the central route from Porto to Santiago at the end of April. I wanted to know if anyone has done this recently. I am American and wasn't sure if there were forms or tests that I need when I cross the border into Spain. I have been looking on various websites but...

    Help with planning Nov 2019

Hi. I did the VDLP from Seville to Salamanca this Spring. I would recommend the cities that you have listed for your trek. There is good bus service between the towns so it is easy to hop ahead quickly if you run out of time. I stayed at the Albergue las Veletas in Caceres and really...

    Download route

I did the first half of the Via de La Plata in May and I really like Windy maps. You don't have to download the route. By expanding the screen you see the Via del Plata and your place on it. I thought it was easy to use and reliable.

    Recommendations: No blisters, no sunburn!

I didn't mean this as a competition. I am just sharing what worked for me when I walked. I was happy with the sleeves and had great success with Blistabloc. Wanted to share with other pilgrims. End of my comments on my post.

Not sure. I haven't heard about Engo patches. I found Blista Bloc on a website and ordered them. I think I paid $7 for a set.

    Recommendations: No blisters, no sunburn!

Recently back from walking the Via de la Plata from Sevilla to Salamanca. It was brutally hot for the first week. I would like to share two items that worked well for me. I took "sleeves" that runners normally use to keep warm. These were great to counteract the sun which usually ended up...

Have you practiced, or received a random act of kindness on your pilgrimage?

On the Via de la Plata last month I did a side trip to Hervas to see the old Jewish quarter. Totally lost as usual, I asked a local woman to help me find it. I don't speak Spanish and she didn't speak English. Next thing I know this lovely lady took me on a half hour walk through the...

    Bus to Salamanca from Morille?

I will be walking into Salamanca on Monday May 13th. I would like to bus in from Morille rather than try to navigate through the city on my own. I'm having trouble finding out if there is a bus or if I will need to take a taxi. Much prefer the ease and low cost of public transportation. Does...

    Where to take rest days

Plan to spend a day or two in Santiago. I took a "free" walking tour there and it really heightened my appreciation of the town beyond the cathedral.

    Which half of the VDLP??

Hi Sylvie. Thank you for your reply. I am starting out of Seville on April 24. Heading to Salamanca. Sounds like you will be ahead of me. I booked space at the backpack hostel in Triana. Has good reviews and hopefully some helpful info in heading out of Seville which sounds a bit...

    Which half of the VDLP??

Hi. I am planning to walk half of the VDLP starting in late April / early May. I wondered if anyone could recommend which "half" is the better choice...Seville to Salamanca or Salamanca to Santiago? I have about 3 weeks for the trip. I am 65, walking alone, planning to stay in alburgues...
