Cafe con leche different this year?

The area around Andalusia has an inclination toward stronger coffee due to the Moorish influence.

Raising the Roof on Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris

I was in Paris a couple weeks ago for the first time. I’ve been to France several times but never to Paris. The last time I was in France it was when she was burning. I was there on a work trip and saw the news and informed the elderly French man making my pizza about it. He and I watched the...

    Bourbon and cigars

Cigars are easy. Bourbon will be available in larger cities but it’s not that popular here as locals tend to drink local. It’s not that easy to get French wine for example.

    Bourbon and cigars

Brandy was going to be my suggestion too to mix it up a bit. I met an Aussie who had brandy as his Camino vice and I have to say the couple I had with him were decent

…and my shoes are sold out (Altra help/recommendations!)

Yep! They’ve reworked the Timp to be closer to the previous Mont Blanc so that may be a decent option. I’ll definitely try a pair on when I can. I did a side by side of the Mont Blanc and the last Timp and the Mont Blanc was a bit more comfortable

…and my shoes are sold out (Altra help/recommendations!)

Thanks!! They’re completely changing the Mont Blancs this year so I may try to pick up a couple pairs of the current model since they did so well.

…and my shoes are sold out (Altra help/recommendations!)

I used these on my Camino and they held up beautifully for the whole Frances and would have been able to keep going had I not put them in a hot dryer when they were a bit damp and they shrank juuuust a bit sadly. I wear Lone Peaks daily and I really appreciated the extra cushion on the Mont...

Competition for the best hamburger in Spain

I’m really happy/alarmed to say Catalonia’s 3rd best burger is just across the road from my apartment in Barcelona. It’s the first place I’ve been where they make the buns, pickles, mayo and mustard all in house. Incredibly delicious.

A Camino "dry run" - what I learned from the Milford Track

The Great Walks are far harder in general than the Camino Frances. But it’s the day-after-day-after-day that gets you on the Camino. Things get stronger whilst others come out of nowhere. I think your gear shakedown was a great idea as was the mental prep. You know how the Camino is similar to...

    Winter Camino blog

I saw that photo and thought ‘he’s not quite there yet’. I’d imagine the blog was set up before he left. How the image got there is a bit weird.

Join the quest for the perfect panel loading camino pack?

I can’t speak to the Loris specifically but I used a Gossamer Gear pack this year and I loved it. Suuuper comfortable. It only had a small insert frame. Unfortunately they don’t make that model anymore but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one from them.

How often do you take a break?

Lots of good advice here. I’m a pretty fit mid-50s and my personality has always been to ‘tackle the challenge’. Part of me really enjoyed that on my Camino but the downside was that I was very tired at the end of the day. I was also not eating enough In retrospect, and for my next Camino, I...

Where to stay in O Cebreiro

Hello 👋. Former Aucklander here. I walked into O Cebreiro last November and it was incredibly quaint. We opted to stay just before O Ceb in La Laguna and it was lovely. Others stayed in O Cebreiro in private rooms and the buoyed that too.

Starting in SJPP four years later!

Congratulations! I was 6 years waiting but only 3 delayed as I did plan to walk in 2020 🤦‍♂️. It was amazing. Your plan for accommodation sounds good 👍. I also booked Orrison and ended up with one of the most glorious days of my life on the second day to Roncesvalles. Enjoy and buen camino!
