Do you want to go lightweight? If so....

Would be lovely in theory but in practise i met far too many unhappy people who could have solved their unhappiness quite simply by carrying less weight. One girl from Alicante, gave up on day two and went home....she had been preparing for this walk for a long time. The Norte is pretty tough imo...

    Hot weather footware

if you go for approach shoes as i would, then definitely non gore-tex, or waterproof liner of any sort. You need those suckers to breathe!

Do you want to go lightweight? If so....

Yes, can you imagine someone wearing the same socks for 2 whole days. I suspect I may be the first person in the history of the Camino to do this <irony alert> Once upon a time, I suspect people walked the whole 900kms without changing their socks!

Do you want to go lightweight? If so....

....then i have just completed 300kms on the Norte from Irun to Santander with a 25lt pack weighing 3.5kgs (before food and water) and i didn't want for anything! Actually, i could have left a couple of things behind :) If you want to make your life easier, and believe me, unless you're fit...

    Favorite stops/albergues on the Norte?

And to amend my post from above about the Idarbide hostel I have to say that they are a little money-grabbing :( My friend paid 25 euros for bed and dinner and then an extra 5 for a pretty meagre breakfast. However, what really took the biscuit (as we say in English!) was that they wanted to...

    Favorite stops/albergues on the Norte?

Neve It's high up above the town but Getaria itself is not actually on the Camino. Unless you walk along the coast road from Zarautz instead of up and over.

    Favorite stops/albergues on the Norte?

Ps can also add the private albergue Idarbide 5kms up from Deba. Fantastic views and greeted with a glass of sidra...perfect :)

    Favorite stops/albergues on the Norte?

Am currently in the albuergue Kanpaia here in Getaria and would highly recommend it. It was certainly worth the extra few kms walking from Zarautz and both the albergue and the town are very nice.

    Where did you walk today?

I spend my winters in the Caribbean and don't walk anywhere....and i mean anywhere! I walk no more than 200mts a day and am planning to walk the CdN in june...hahahaha. That said, i am a yoga teacher, a kite surfer and a very keen cyclist (200-300kms/week) so will be interested to see how i get...
