    Absolutely not. I walked the Camino Frances with my 16 year old son. It was an amazing adventure. We met a mother with a 10 year old along the way. You will be fine.

    Sock Liners. Yes or No

    I would never waLk a Camino without using liner socks and Vaseline. I have done the French route twice as well as the vdlp and aside from one tiny exception have never had a single blister.

    Have you walked both the Plata and the Frances

    I too, did the Via de la Plata after walking de Frances twice. I loved it for all the reasons you did not. Solitude, no commercialism, camaraderie with pilgrims you meet day after day because there are no other options, and so many kind Spaniards not affected by the crowds of the Frances.

    I have used Duolingo. It is probably better for learning to read than to speak, but it made it possible to have basic conversations.

    Idif the entire VdlP in 2016 and walking alone was par for the course. Most evenings, though, there were other pilgrims to spend time with. If you want to walk in solitude this is a Camino for you

    Two big differences, first of all, fewer pilgrims, which adds to the solitude, but also the camaraderie as you usually end up with the same people every night.     I walked that Camino twice, once in 2008 and again in 2010. Both times I used Merell Moab Ventilators and found them awesome. Not a single blister both times. I wore them with medium thick merino wool socks and thin liners and put on vaseline every morning as well. Of course, leaving in March...
