How would you prepare for a three or four hour hike at home that wasn't going to pass any services?
I'm guessing the answer might be to take food and water and be prepared for the weather.

...but don't get too upset if your hospitalero DOESN'T know what's open up ahead. It is up to each pilgrim to take care of his own needs/do his own homework, and then look around and see who else could use a hand.
When I walk longer distances, I go into "mission mode" and neglect all around me which defeats the purpose of the Camino. Thus, I try to force myself to shorten the length and increase the experience.

I see you’re in Austin? Lots of flights direct from Austin to Madrid or Paris, then connect by air, train or bus to his starting point. No need to go to Dallas, and fares might be cheaper from Austin.
