I'd agree - not great things to wear. When they get wet - and they will - they'll rub and chafe as well as everything else. Cotton holds four times its own weight in water and doesn't give it up easily. Next time you wash your jeans put them in a warm room over a chair and see how long they take...
Again...yes there are lots of pharmacies....but not necessarily where you want them or when you want them or open when you need them to be. If you could rely on them completely there would be no need for any first aid kit. Whch would be rather like saying "Well i've never gone through the...
My first aid kit (based on a combination of Camino and UK wet weather trekking) is:
Waterproof Plasters
Dry antiseptic spray
Lint free dressing pads
Self Adhesive bandage
Tubigrip
Compeed (OBVIOUSLY!)
Needle & Thread
Sterile wipes (only a couple)
Small bottle eye drops (came in VERY useful)...
Re: Equipent list and opinions from recent camino
Nice pack - LOVE Acteryx stuff...... can't afford it mind but I love it anyway :)
Fair enough list but I'd argue a couple of points on it.......although as with so many things it's a very personal thing....
The New Balance trail shoes - very...
Which is fair enough........but if i was a native french or spanish speaker I would probably prefer and have, a guide book in my own language..
I just dont see its usefulness except on the "off chance" a french or spanish person needs that one paragraph in their language...seems a tad far...
Actually - I think the new map book is LESS useful. We all seem to agree he has some useful info which i padded out with a lot of rambling that is far from necessary...although occasionally interesting. However - the new book with just maps is just that......maps. Given the somewhat schematic...
Yeah...despite my previous posts I ended up getting: The whole Camino France guide, the stripped down version that's recently come out AND the Camino Finisterre.
I think the very practical information is great (although not always 100% accurate but then I guess; what travel book is..) but the...
Bump Yuip on this - couldn't have put it better myself. Given the opportunity I would happily take the time to do teh whole camino...but then what exactly IS the whole camino? The Portugese route only takes 9 days but qualifies as a "proper" camino. The English route looks like it takes about 9...
Mine too! And mine's a 50 litre! TO be fair its a freeflow so it packs weird (banana shaped) I oculd probably...possibly..get my stuff in a 35l. Hmmm...then again I really do need that...
I need some restraint i really do :)
I would completely agree that Leon - Santiago is very very do-able in 14 days...but I would also say Leon - Fisterra in 14 days is substantially harder. I'd love to be doing it but with a total of 15 days to walk I would rather immerse myself in the walk, the countryside and the people than...
Many thanks William and Johnnie, much appreciated!! I know the CSJ do good work but right now I need to keep every outgiong I have to the bare minimum...bit of a shoestring Camino in fact but i have no doubt it will be in many ways a richer experience for it :)
Maybe next year for the CSJ...
Hi folks, i know this is a bit of a daft question but just to be sure......does anyone know for certain where I can get a credencial in Astorga? I'll be starting there and would prefer a spanish credencial over the CSJ one. (Especially as the CSJ one will effectively cost £30 for...
Yuip - I'm also planning a Camino Lite - two weeks walking to Fistaerra. I was also going to start in Leon but then the daily average km you'll need to do means you won't have time to really enjoy the experience...and I absolutely promise you that getting to Santiago will not be what you look...
Excellent! Glad you got it sorted Max. Just wanted to add though..."the 10% weight limit" makes it sound a bit like doctrine. I assure you it's not - it's a comfortable ideal to aim for but going over that is not a huge issue. I'll start this year over that, purely because of some of the...
Equally guilty!! I'm waiting for the last couple of bits of new kit (obviously I need to get some new stuff because the very hard wearing technical gear I got last year is...well its just soooo last year now isnt it..)
Anyhoo - been fully packed (except for new lighterweight replacements) for...
