I medically treated 5 people on my last trip over the top. It was snowing and some people treat it like a walk around the park. Not carrying water was the biggest issue. 15 rescued and 1 death.
Safest way is walk in a group and carry 2 littes of water. I had 3 litres and ended up giving a lot to...
i used a silk liner on my last camino. I would not use one again. They dont breathe. i paid quite a bit for a quality one. I just used my sleeping bag in the end. My partner found the same thing.
My walking partner took a shewee, she gave up quickly. We did notice piles of paper over the last two months though. Even on the path itself. With so many squatting right next to us, I guess not everyone feels the need to walk off the track. I had one lady talk to me while peeing about 5ft away...
Hi Vasco,
I will catch up with you when I get back. Yeah, my pack was heavy, about 12 but no probs. I am glad I had gear for all seasons with. Portuguese rout will be my next. The shirts fit much better now :)
See you soon
As this forum is used to share learning, I am not sure this is a hatred of bikes etc. I chose to walk rather than ride, that just happened to be my choice. Speed causing accidents, especially in areas marked for walking only and being used as a high speed downhill mountain trail.
A few bikers...
I just completed my FULL camino from SJPDP.
In nearly every case, plastic mattress covers and other measures were being used to prevent bugs. I had no issues. Looks like they are on top of it.
The exception was SAMOS. It looked like everything was dirty and not washed for 5 years. Glad we kept...
I have just completed a full camino from SJPDP.
I treated three people along the way who were hit by bikes or trying to avoid them.
One lady was 66 now with a cracked rib. One sprined wrist and the other was a bruise.
If you listen to music, you have no chance. Most said burn camino instead of...
This thread is a bit old, however, I lost 10kg by Burgos. I decided I would carry at least 10kg minimum in my pack. My friends had what I called a pussy pack and sent gear on each day. They didn't lose much. They wished they carried more now :) lol, too late.
I also gained a lot of muscle which...
Just an update... Saria onwards is easier to find a bed. No problems. Many have dropped out and there are many more places to stay now. You still need a sleeping bag for sure though.
It's rare they speak English. Internet seems to work. My Spanish is not to bad and even I had trouble. I got to a few places where I thought they were reserved only to find out no one wrote it down.
Asking a local to call for you also seems to work.
They are busy right now.
You can book ahead if you know where you will stay.
Avoid the stopovers in common guide books as they fill fast.
We just keep walking if towns are full to the next town
Haven't needed ear plugs yet, I wish I had nose plugs.... Some people really really stink!! Wear one wash one doesn't work when it's raining lol. So glad I had extra clothes. Omg, I had to move tables so I can eat. No self respect for some people. Just blew an ACL in Saria.... Will be a slow...
Jennylu,
The 5e albergues are few and far between. Those that are that price have cold water, no sheets or pillow cases etc. if you don't mind sleeping on dirty mattresses, this is the place to stay. Most albergues are about 10e. Not many have cooking facilities and you have to get in quick to...
We are on the camino now, just got to Saria. We wish we had taken our tent in order to stop the daily rat race to find somewhere to stay. We passed so many great places and will be getting one while we are in town. The camino is spoiled by daily competition to find somewhere to stay. I am seeing...
