Are mosquitos seasonal on the Camino?

Have you any recipes to share? It is so hard to find good ones. I remember, years ago, Radio Austrialia providing a recipe for quiche termaine but mosquitos and termites are not interchangeable. Of course, I mean this all in a wing-in-cheek sort of way.

    Pole Poll

OK...so I used my poles at 90 degrees, as did my wife and son. It was often difficult to walk three abreast with others passing us, and us (rarely) passing others. Being the one taking pictures, I was usually the swing guy- the guy who had to move behind the other two to let people pass...

LIVE from the Camino Struggling with doubt on the Camino Frances

I remember my wife and I having doubts even before we left home. We decided to just take it day by day...and those days added up to both of completing our Camino. Don't think of next week...think of tomorrow (or possibly the next day, if you are taking a deserved day off) and celebrate that you...

    Templiers/Hospitaliers wrt the CdS pilgrimage?

The Camino was already well established before the Templars came into being in the early 12th century (1118 is often given as the approximate date of formation...which meant they did not go on the earliest of the Crusades). The Templars were to protect pilgrims going to the Holy Lands...and to...

Thoughts on “Santiago - the Camino within”

Just as a point of clarification on this that some my find interesting - The word "catholic" comes from the Greek and simply means "universal." Back when it was just "The Church" it was referred to that way as it was the universal Christian church or catholic church.

Thoughts on “Santiago - the Camino within”

Thank you for this. There are many of us who will never be able to get enough time off of work to hike the 778 km. I envy people who have such opportunities. Also, not all of us are healthy enough to undertake such a trip, and additionally, many of us of family commitments that cannot be put...

Thoughts on “Santiago - the Camino within”

Was the movie what I expected…no. Was it awful, no. Was it Catholic…certainly (no one should surprised or offended by that…it was plainly obvious from the movie trailers available online…and, like it or not, the that is the history of the Camino). It did seem disjointed. I would have liked it...

Instead of Sarria to Santiago-any other100-150 km on the Frances

They were at the point where we reached the top of the long initial hill coming out of Portomarin. I loved how the fog obscured everything else!

Instead of Sarria to Santiago-any other100-150 km on the Frances

I frequently hear this comment about the last 100 km, but we walked it in June and did not have any crowding problems…except one morning when we started early. That day there were school groups and other groups…so much so that we stopped and let them by. The trick was not to be up so early. We...

Accommodation Recommendations in Leon for Solo Female Traveler

We stayed in Leon and then went from there to Sarria. The most direct route was to hire a driver, which we did. It was a service I found online and and I do not remember the service. The driver was friendly, but knew no English. We did not see a simple bus or train solution so we took the driver...

A Few Hours in Madrid ...

We had a stop in Madrid too…a bit longer than yours. We had something like 22 hours. We made the most of it. We did not want to simply rest either. We starting walking We started in the vicinity of the palace and cathedral and walked into the older part of the city. We stopped in churches and...

    Unusual places to collect sellos/stamps

We received a stamp from some nuns who were out in front of their convent. We also got a wax stamp from a gent along the way who was making them and incorporating small flowers (both evoke good memories). Both of these were within a few hundred yards of one another.

Problems convincing youth to go on a Camino...any experience?

I was wondering the same thing. My son and all of his friends were soooo sick of not having in-person social contacts that they would have gone in an instant once it was allowed (post Covid, if there is such a thing). Even now, they all seem to dread the possibility of such confinement again...

    Prayer books

it’s a very reasonable question. Your question did not even ask about a prayer book for a specific religion, just what prayer book others recommend. That said, they are many daily prayer guides you could use. It depends also if you are looking for something that is a short inspirational...
