Can anyone recommend some picture heavy resources of the Camino?

Howdy y'all. I walked the Camino back in 2012. Did the 'traditional' route of SJPP to Santiago then Muxia and Finisterre. Had a *wonderful* time and it was a tremendous experience that has been a positive influence in my life and was just about everything one might want from their Camino...

How late is too late to leave SJPP and still make it Roncesvalles?

I left SJPP at 10 AM and arrived at Roncesvalles at...uhm...I don't know exactly. It was still light out though so I reckon around 7 or 8? But I was walking through some terrible weather too so that slowed me for sure. If I were you, I'd stay a day in SJPP. It's an interesting city to walk...

    which part to miss?

I guess they don't have much time? 15 km is about a days walk for us slo- leisurely folk. Maybe they just need to skip a day, in which I wonder why not just start not at O'Cebreiro but 15 km down the road?

Osprey Kestrel 38 backpack - any opinions? Please share.

I used that same pack, no issues other than the shoulder straps digging in after a few weeks. I was told it was due to wearing the backpack incorrectly (by someone who didn't see me wearing it) but I had it fitted when I first bought it, and had it packed and cinched the correct way according...

    BBC "Pilgrimage With Simon Reeve"

Man this sounds awesome. Wish I could get in on it. Good luck! I always enjoy watching stuff over the Camino and seeing others' experiences and interpretations of the same places I visited and things they found that I didn't.

    One of those moments

I wear glasses as well and a baseball cap with the poncho hood pulled over the top of it (so the brim still stuck out but it kept water from soaking through the top and the cap from blowing off) did a remarkably good job of keeping the rain off my face (and more importantly, my glasses).

Travel to St. Jean from the USA

I was the one cautioning about the terminals being all in French. When I left (first train out of the station to SJPP), there were no clerks at the windows so I had to use the terminal. I wanted to get to SJPP as early as possible to spend as much time there before I left the next day. I...

    Can I Just Start Walking?

Proud to say my shell survived, as did the other three I brought to give away. There were times where I went "oh...I bet that broke the shell...." I did see three broken shells along the way though. Felt bad for whoevers they were. One such shell, found about 10 km outside of Santiago. :(

Have y'all seen the video of this guy? Lots of bad decision

Don't get snarky. This guy knew, and he even talks about it extensively, that it was a terrible decision. Yes I watched the entire video, and yes I think the guy is likeable, but being affable doesn't mean we can't criticize your bad decision making. I think he learned a lesson, but I'm also...

    Can I Just Start Walking?

Stop by and get a conch shell from the pilgrim's office. Takes like, 10 minutes, and it's a euro (actually it's donativo but they ask that you donate at least a euro). Also you might consider 'checking in' with them anyhow, as I think they use the SJPP numbers as part of their records.

What are the showers like - hooks walls?

Ha, yah those were annoying. Push the button, 5 seconds of water, push the button, 5 more seconds. I eventually noticed that, to shut off, it slowly depressed out of the wall (I guess on a spring) so I began just scrubbing one handed with the other hand holding down the button.

Do albergues have lockers or is theft not a problem?

I wouldn't say theft is a big problem. I'm sure it happens, but people leave out their tablets and phones to charge all the time and you never hear of theft. The only thing I heard that was stolen was a pair of shorts and something tells me that it's more likely someone accidentally picked...

Travel to St. Jean from the USA

Flying to Paris then train to Bayonne then train to SJPP was pretty easy. I had to stay a night in Bayonne, though, but it's a nice town with stuff to see and do. Some people complained about lechers and thieves around the train station but that wasn't my experience, and you can easily walk...

Walk from Bayonne to St. Jean

I'd just take the train. It's like, 10 euros or so? Be wary though, the terminals in the train station at Bayonne are ONLY IN FRENCH for the SJPP ticket. Trying to navigate it as a non-French speaker is...trying at best, and I bought the wrong ticket (I can only advise not to buy the 'Carte...

    Finisterre/Muxia

Yah there's a bus that you can do a day trip I think, but I think it has odd hours too. It really depends on what you're wanting to do. If you wanna burn stuff, then Finisterre. If you want to hang out on beaches, then Muxia. Really either of them are good. I think Muxia was more scenic...
