I found the descent in to Pasai quite tough on my knees. We had gotten a bus to Irún that morning from Bilbao so we’re late starting. Once we got to Pasai, we got the boat across to the other side. There was a taxi rank with a phone and we got picked up and taken to San Sebastián.
For anyone around Leeds on the 14th of February, we are showing 6 Ways to Santiago with a free lunch and discussion on pilgrimage. Leeds Church Institute is a charity based in the City Centre and we hold free events and discussions. For more information and to book:

I did this section in May - some great sections. I would skip the walk out of Bilbao but definily do the fab day from Laredo to Guemes. And th next day by the coast to Soma to get the ferry across to Santander.
I've just had a look at the central Bilbao hostel that I stayed in on Saturday night (BCool) where I paid 22 Euro for the night. For this Saturday during the rugby a bed in a dormitory is 148 Euro! Maybe get out to the Pilgrim's hostel in Pobena if you can't get a bed in Bilbao. It's an easy bus...
I’ve just finished a stretch of the Camino Del Norte from Bilbao to Llanes. The only place where we ran into a wave of pilgrims was Santillana but it was a Sunday night. The Convento Albergue filled up quickly and then the municipal so by 6pm no albergue beds left. We then booked private...
I'm heading to Bilbao on Sunday to do a section of the Camino del Norte. In 2016 I did the Frances from SJPP to SdC and then last year the Portuguese from Coimbra to SdC. This is a new experience then, not finishing in SdC but I hope to get to Llanes at least in the 11 days that I have plus a...
I started atCoimbra which took me 5 days to get to Porto - Mealhada, Agueda, Albergaria de Nova, San Joao then Vila Nova de Gaia and then Matasinhos. I had spent a few days in Porto before going down to Coimbra. I loved the quietness and solitude before arriving in Porto. It got fairly busy...
I've just finished the Portuguese from Coimbra to Santiago. I stayed in a mix of hostels, some with private rooms, albergues and Casa rurales. I usually did my research on booking dot com and Wise Pilgrim. Then I called them or emailed them directly and their prices were often cheaper. I only...
Hi Bonnie! Great to see you're thinking of going back again! I think starting from Leon would be a good idea. It's very different terrain especially after Astorga and such a beautiful Walk into Galicia. Then you have time to go to Finisterre and Muxia at the end. Best of luck!
I walked the Frances in September/October this year from SJPP to SDC (still can't quite believe I did it!) and I seem to have inspired some friends to start thinking of doing something similar. One has done Sarria to SdC so we are hoping to do Porto to Santiago in May.
