    Maps with fountain info

I made a major mistake on my 1st Camino that involved getting badly dehydrated, at one point I found myself sitting on the trail not knowing how I got there. The next morning I woke up dizzy and checked into a local hotel. The next 2 wakeups I was still dizzy, so I ended my camino and flew home.

Searching for the perfect hiking pole

I only use poles in these situations: 1. Going downhill 2. When special problems occur I used them going up hill from Orisson once when there was a quite strong wind from my left hand side. There are some situations where I feel unsteady such as wet rocks, etc. Then it is nice to have "three...

Searching for the perfect hiking pole

On my most recent camino trip, the airline "lost" my poles. So I had to buy new ones in Saint Jean. I found a pair that go to 135cm. They don't have the shock absorbing feature, but they to collapse into them selves. I bought them from a barrel and each cost 22 euros. They are made by...

    Origin of the yellow arrows

When did the yellow arrows first appear? Was there a color that was used in the past? Did the current color get adopted after "The Wizard of Oz" come out with the thing about following the yellow brick road?

    Trail Runners I'm Looking at

It is easier to change a group walking companions than it is to get well broken shoes/boots when on the Camino (unless you started from home with them).

With shoes/boots and packs, if it doesn't fit, don't commit.

I tried an ankle brace but boots did better.

    Trail Runners I'm Looking at

When I was in the USMC I broke my ankle and had steel pins in it for over a year. I have been wearing hiking boots for over 40 years now and like the little extra ankle support I get. I'm well over 70 now and the ankle support is the most important feature of my foot coverings. It would be nice...

Legalities of knives in Spain and France

I just bought an inexpensive folding knife in Saint Jean and assumed that it was legal in Spain. If not, dumping it wouldn't have bothered me. Since it folded, my having it was not obvious, except when actuality using it.

Monkey Butt. . . Prevention, Care, and Treatment

Bad luck? Is an appropriate answer here.

    Really Dumb Albergue Question. Sorry.

I almost did the same thing. What I did was get several of the straight wires from coat hangers. I left them straight because I could bend them to shape by hand when I wanted to. I decided that they might be considered inappropriate for carrying in the airplane cabin. So I packed them with my...

    Really Dumb Albergue Question. Sorry.

I found S hooks in Saint Jean and loved being able to almost always hang things up. There were two sizes available and I got the larger size.

    Really Dumb Albergue Question. Sorry.

I sleep cold. At home my wife will have her blanket on 2 or 3 and I'll have my side on 5 or 6. For many years now, at least 40+, when I travel anywhare, I always have a large towel with me. Some places don't provide extra blankets. On the Camino I just have a "modern micro fiber" towle.
