    Drinking water @hotels

    I found it was easy to buy a gallon of water in most places. If the hotel didn't provide it I would buy it, drink my fill, fill my bottles and then donate the rest to a pilgrim down the hall or just left it.

    Why Gortex? The heat is likely to be more of an issue than water. Your feet are likely to sweat and get your socks wet from the inside.

    Hiking stick instead of walking poles

    Personally I think you're being romantic if you're walking 500 miles. One staff will throw off your balance and rhythm. Poles make your movement much more efficient. If you're walking 66 miles, it probably won't matter.

    I'm 73. I want to keep walking for a long time, so I walk a lot. Most days I walk 3 miles in the morning and 1 1/2 miles in the afternoon. Before a Camino, I'll increase the afternoon walk a bit and add a backpack.

    You can just add a piece of paper for your stamps. That's what I had to do.
