OBSOLETE COVID THREAD COVID-19: Corona virus discussion (ROUND 5)

I am a retired veteran from the USAF and live in Spain year round. My plans, (and I still have the Train tickets), were to start the Northern trail this year on 6 April during semana santa, however, Corona changed all that. The whole country is in Red-Alert lock down. Plan your trip for next...

    Multiple disabilities?

Go for it! I have all kinds of stuff messed up with me and gonna do it again for the 3rd time. Diabetes, cancer, high bp, high colesteral, and probably a few more, but I don't really worry about it...just deal with it and the world will keep spinning, and the sun will rise in the morning.

Warning: Improper behavior reported between Astorga and Rabanal

I just did 4 weeks on the trail-no pepper spray required. You will meet up with some of the most fascinating people you will ever meet. Use your common sense and merge into a normal group of people and simply say hello. Most of the time you get open arms instead of middle fingers-thank goodness...

I live in Spain, so will be doing the camino in the fashion I like to call "Cheating the Camino" . I went on a bus ride from my house to the train station and went to Pamplona. Stayed in the alburge for the first night and took off the next day. Ended up in Burgos 2 weeks later and it was a trip...

    Starting in Pamplona

I just bussed into Pamplona and stayed at the alburgue close to the main plaza in town(near the bull ring). Just get a good nights rest and start fresh in the morning. Follow the signs inside the sidewalk and the yellow arrows..they will lead you thru and out of the city. Happy trails whatever...

    Camping on the camino

Hope this helps, and makes no diff to me if you use a tent or not...just want to let you know for info purposes: I live here in Spain and Decathalon stores are in all the large cities and sell tents or any other sporting goods you need. If you forget something..it can be purchased-just don't...

    How can I avoid blisters!!!???

Wow! What a plethara of information on blisters..Lets make this easy, efficient, yet cheap. I walk a lot-double digit kilometers-I put Vasaline on the front bottom of my foot and big toe, slide on a cotton sock, place another sock over it (wool in winter for warmth/cotton in summer) and never...

    Cost of Camino

30€ per day seems to be the concensus ...hmmmm..that is about 1,000 euros per month, so I think by eating fruit and vegetables with water and a can of tuna fish with a loaf of fresh bread 3 out of 7 days a week, That price can even go lower....depending on your eating habits and self-control..

Best months to walk the Camino Frances: May/June or Sept/Oct?

I live here in Spain and can walk out the door on any date, so I have planned on going during the time frame when there is; 1. Less people(no fights for a place to sleep), and 2. Temperatures neither freezing or baking, and 3. No major fiestas/celebrations taking place. 15 March thru 15 May...

    Is our backpack big enough

My personal experience: I have been training by using my backpack US military issue made out of gortex...have no idea what it weighs-don't care. My advice is do not get hung up on weight. Most important is pack what you think you will need(this forum has supurb lists), and take off on a 5, then...

    Guidance on back pack weight

I agree that a specific list would be great if that was possible, but you did not apply the (duh) factor. My toothpaste is probably 60 militootoos less than yours, and my shirt, (that thing I'm considering for covering my pectorals) might be wool instead of silk. Each persons' specific...
