Hello and Buen Camino,
Like John I am in my 60’s and I walked the Norte (Irun to Santiago) in July/Aug. 2019. I am fit but never considered myself a long distance hiker. I am SO excited you get to experience the beauty of mountains, oceans, as well as the warm Basque hospitality and cuisine.
I...
Hi D,
I walked the Norte (40 days from Irun to Santiago) in July and August in 2019. I don't understand any description of any of the many routes as "sightseeing with kinetic energy." In my understanding, the spirituality of every Camino emanates first and foremost from within yourself, and...
Hi TIA,
I walked the entire Norte in 2019 from Irun and all I can say is that I long to return. It is spectacular hiking the mountains alongside the ocean. I also had plenty of pilgrims to accompany me on my pilgrimage. I did, however, go in July/August, so I can't say what it will be like with...
I forgot to mention that I walked from Irun to SDC in July/August of 2019 and am hoping to return August/September of 2021. What do you think of camping as a viable option for when I wouldn’t be able to find an alburgue (don’t want the expand of hotels). I bought a tent and camped a few times on...
Hi Dave,
Thank you soooo much for all this work to get more accurate info on accommodations along the Norte. The Norte was my first (and only, thus far) Camino and I long to return as it is simply magical.
Not busy from Irun to Bilbao. MUCH busier after Bilbao as many fly in and start here. Many albergues full after Bilbao especially if you land in one that has a festival that week as we did in Castro Urdiales.
Hola Peregrinos,
I’m on day 14 since starting in Irun and love, love, love the Norte. The stop last night at the Pilgrim Albergue in Güemes was magical. Don’t miss it. Now in Santander takings two night rest and wondering how many kilometers the alternative route along the coast north from...
Hola fellow peregrinos,
I’m currently in Barcelona enjoying a few days with my grandkids and daughter-in-law, before heading to Irun by train early Friday. I’m hoping to find room at the Albergue de Peregrinos de Irún, Lesaca Kalea, 1, 20301 Irún on Friday pm and head out on the El Norte...
I am Sooooo grateful for all your kind and helpful responses! I fly out to Barcelona today (with 3 grandkids and daughter-in-law), then take the train from Barcelona to Irun Friday am. I decided on my Salomon's and a pair of Teva sandals.
Hi, I've heard some people talk about bringing a second, lighter pair of shoes for when it rains and your primary pair get soaked (mine are breathable - not waterproof - Salomon XA-Pro Trail Runners). Do shoes like this dry out overnight or should I have a second pair along? I start the Camino...
Hi Fellow Pilgrims,
I will arrive in Irun by train at 2:15 on Friday, June 21 from Barcelona. the Camino Del Norte all the way to Santiago and on to Finisterre. I'll be walkingI'd like to get started walking that day. Here are my questions:
1. Where do I get my credential stamped in Irun? Is it...
Hello,
I'm planning to walk from Monserrat to Azpietia on the Camino Ignaciano, then connect to the northern route and on to Santiago De Compostela. I have 2 months to do the walk and plan to start from Monserrat on June 23 or 24. Any input on walking the Camino Ignaciano? And where I would be...
