Say No! to rubber tips on your poles.

The number one purpose of a trekking pole is to provide an opportunity for your upper body to participate in the work of walking/hiking. Safety is a side benefit. Now I am in agreement with you that the best practice is to hike without the rubber tips. But this only applies to outside of the...

Avoiding Porto's industrial area on the Camino - starting point recommendations

If you are planning the Littoral I would suggest following the river out of downtown then north along the coast. https://www.relive.cc/view/vevWQ4Dmoy6

Special Compostela for pilgrims walking longer distances?

So many are looking for the minimum path to achieve their Compostela. You see in many boards, "Where can I start to get my 100KM?" Their desire is the Compostela. The Compostela is rooted in the traditions of my Catholic brothers and sisters. Those of the faith following the path of St James...

Video: How to Avoid Blisters - It Can be Done

1st Camino I had numerous blisters. One was the result of having to switch to new shoes 1/2 way through. I then started using compression socks. Not the "medical" one you get at the drug store but high-quality hiking ones. The ones I am using currently are from Cabelas. Every person is different...

Thinking of walking Camino Frances in summer 2021... in need of advice

Your Mom isn't going to like what I have to say. :) As a father, I have encouraged all my children to travel as often as they can. I did not have my first international trip until I was 35. And I did not have my first international adventure (Camino) until I was 46. Reasons included: financial...

    Discouraged in Florida

I would not say a lot. But I know people and witnessed people leaving the trail after day one right up to the day before Santiago. Sometimes it is a failing body sometimes a family emergency back home or even running out of funds. For me allowing myself permission to fail from the very beginning...

    Discouraged in Florida

The best training in my view is being on your feet all day. The Camino is about the head and the heart over the body. I saw many young fit people leave the way because they tried to conquer it and found themselves counquered. The friends you make along the way will also carry you on those...

    Bedbugs

My family has 7 compestellas from St Jean to Santiago. Thats 265 alberge bunks. We did not ever have to deal with bed bugs, though others near us did. If encountered follow the steps to treat for them and then continue on. I would recommend not starting your journey with this worry.
