I think the question where are you home to? Madrid to where… ?

Can I stay in albergues if I start the Camino backwards?

In 2019 after completing the Primitivo, I walked from Finisterre to Santiago with a friend and no one questioned it. It was actually interesting to see all the pilgrims walking towards us each day. So yes, one can walk in reverse.

    Either Or

Ultra 3 shoe and boots have gore-tex. Never been an issue for me like other have experiences. 2 of my Camino’s have been in the spring and it’s been helpful with mud and rain. Never need to dry them out as my feet stayed dry. I use moisture wicking socks and change them out mid day usually. I...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD CDC Travel Advice to Spain

I am leaving in a few days and noticed this as well when I registered with the State Dept. My reaction was similar to the thoughts above AND noticed there are very few countries on the Level 1 or 2 travel advisories. My possibility of infection is higher in north Texas - we have much lower...

    Either Or

I have very narrow feet and hike with Solomons but use SOLE inserts (that form to your feet with heat.) I have used the brands trail runner, ultra 3 hiking shoes, and now ultra 3-Mids boot. All with great results and rarely get blisters. The high impact SOLEs are my preference and I buy them...

Too late to start preparing & weather in May?

I read an adage on the forum before my fist Camino in 2015 that I wish I had listen to more - start as old woman, finish as a young one. Go extra slow in the beginning (meaning shorter distances) and as your body conditions, you will naturally pick up the pace after the first 5-6 days. Days...

    Compression bags for clothes packing?

I use color coded packing sacs as well - some have compression if needed. Like a cinch sac or packing cube but with zips at the top and small carabiners that are really helpful. The system helps me not lose things, and have the benefit above of extra layer of water protection, bed bugs etc...

What's the one thing in your pack, that you absolutely CANNOT do without...and why?

Um 100% me. I smuggle as much ibuprofen gel as I can manage each trip home. Voltaren we can get locally. 😂

Help me pick my pack! :)

Going to add my vote for REI here. Research is good but I strongly agree with folks about the fit. All the packs you mentioned are well made - it’s just a matter how they work for you and then small preferences like pocket locations and zips, etc. It was a really hard road for me to learn I...

Camino Frances in March 2022.. Advice ??

Hi friend!! I am from Texas and speak enough bad Spanish to get by on the phone. 😂 WhatsApp is a good suggestion that never occurred to me. I found that hospitalarios and albergues owners are usually willing to call for you as well.

Camino Frances in March 2022.. Advice ??

Hi, Veteran here and planning to start late March from Roncesvalles. In general, even in the high season of May/June, I did not pre-plan my stages or book ahead other than SJPP and Orrison. On the CF and Primitovo, I would call a private albergue the evening before once we we considered the next...
