The heaviest item in my backpack each Camino is my journal. I do not enjoy writing using my laptop/ipad/Remarkable as much as on paper with my special pen. My journal was soaked through on Camino #6. Flipping through those pages now, seeing how the ink spread across those wet papers, and feeling...
David, I live in a city near to you, so similar temps. I'm barefoot in sandals and clogs all year long. I get some strange looks and always those questions about cold feet. lol Have you noticed that the UPS delivery people are in shorts year round?
After walking Lisbon to Fatima, we took a rest day in Tomar. Loved it. Hard to call it a rest day, though. We spent hours in the Convento de Cristo, also walked along the aqueduct and all through Tomar. We also arrived during a medieval festival. Bonus!
Six-time repeat offender here.
I walked March 30, 2023 from SJPdP via Valcarlos along with many pilgrims. I worried when told the hospitalero in Valcarlos didn't want to open the second room of bunk beds after I'd arrived late. (He did, and there was plenty of room in the albergue.)
I arrived...
After three debilitating knee injuries over six Caminos (one that put me on crutches for 200 kms), my physiotherapist described a "walker's high" that enabled me to walk through the pain. She compared it to the "runner's high" or Zone. Interesting.
My husband (4 Summer Caminos) and I (1 autumn, 4 summer, 1 late winter/early spring Caminos) wear Merino t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, socks and undies. I have worn Smartwool and Icebreaker brands happily. The Icebreaker brand is a blend, but wears well. Ten years later, I'm still wearing the...
I’m sidelined with knee damage suffered on the downhill from Alto del Perdón. I made it to Uterga where Noelia took care of me for two nights (!) at Albergue Camino del Perdón. My pride pushed me to walk to Puente la Reina where I am again bed-ridden with a swollen knee and leg.
The upside...
I bought a 26L Deuter for my 2013 Camino. I’m wearing it in my avatar. I’ve used it over five Caminos now, and will be taking it on my March 29th Camino in just 1.5 weeks. It’s comfortable. (Lightweight, unless I overstuff it.)
I’m hoping it will be usable this upcoming Camino. I’ve never...
Wish I'd known! I leave for Camino #6 in three weeks. The Toronto Camino Community is likely the closest to my home in St. Catharines, and it would have been nice to connect with pilgrims and participate in the shell ceremony. (Or at least observe.)
The beautiful souls at Pilgrim House supported me in August 2022 when, upon arriving there, I received a call that my Mom was dying. I will forever be grateful for their compassion in that intense moment.
I know you asked where to buy the book in Santiago, but if you are continuing on to Muxia for a visit, you can buy it autographed (!) in a store called Celtic, Wicca and Bling. I bought my copy there in August 2022. Maybe contact the owner, Tracy Saunders, and see if she could mail you a copy.
I bought a foldable board game called Juego de la Oca from a shop across from the Pilgrim’s Office. Also available at The Last Stamp. Great little game based on the Camino and played like Snakes and Ladders.Comes in a 6”x6” (approx.) flat package. Playing pieces and dice included. Other side of...
