I began my Camino at 208 lbs. and finished at 188, with no thought to conserving calories while I walked. Bread, potatoes, fruit, desserts, wine and cerveza were my friends. I found my regular Warner briefs were quick to dry (synthetic but with cotton crotch) as were my Bali bras, both of...
I am a 61 year old female who walked the Camino Frances alone in Aug and Sept of 2011. I speak English with only a dozen or so words of Spanish or another language. Never did I feel uncomfortable, let alone fearful, during my journey. Remember that Albergues usually require you to be inside...
I just walked the Camino Frances this past Aug-Sept and can honestly say I felt as safe there as I do walking my neighborhood at home. I was walking solo, am 61 years old and female. Perhaps if your husband watched some of the documentaries available he would be more trusting.
The people who run the albergue Don Alvaro in Sarria were the most helpful people I encountered all along the way. I arrived with some special needs and the woman was an absolute angel. Their hammocks on the upper deck, the firepit in the evening, all top notch. Also it is close to the exit...
Re: A 12 yo journey on Camino de Santiago
In August of 2011 I became acquainted with a man and his two sons who were walking from Roncesvalles to Logrono. I spoke no Italian and they spoke very little English, but for several days we would pass each other on the Way and sometimes stay in the...
Someone suggested I take a pedometer. Thinking of extra weight I decided I didn't need it. And, I didn't NEED it, just wished several times I had taken it with me--to add up all those "extra kms" every day or to see how far I had come since morning.
I flew into Paris, spent one night there and left the next morning by train to SJPDP. I was lucky enough to fly into the CDG terminal where the train station is located and also booked a room (I had accumulated points) at the Sheraton just above the train station. Thus, I simply went down two...
I am 61 year old female from Louisville, KY, and just finished the Camino Frances from St. Jean Pied du Port to Santiago this year Aug/Sept. I would be happy to give you any assistance I can.
Everyone has given you good advice. I would echo the need to reserve a bed at Orisson for the first night. Though it is only 8 km, it seemed to me to be straight up! Second night in Roncesvalles and I was still in pretty good shape, but on the third day, the soreness hit and by the time I got...
My experience was that earplugs that deadened snorers' noise also deadened rustling plastic bags. I was usually surprised when I woke at 6:30 to see how many spaces were emptied already. I slept right thru their leaving.
Having just returned from my first Camino, I can honestly say that while I seldom go out without make-up at home, one of my pleasures on the Camino was not even thinking about make-up, hair, etc. I think the pink of my cheeks from sun would have "clashed" with blush anyway. As for meeting a...
Thanks to all the people on this forum who recommended liner socks. I just finished the Camino Frances and other than where my middle toe wants to "ride" on my fourth toe on each foot (I just put on a soft tube on the toe on each foot), I had no blisters. I saw many others with terrible pain...
I am female, 61, and Type 2 Diabetic. I just finished the Camino from SJPDP to Finesterre. I take Metformin morning and night and inject Lantus in the evening. By the time I got to Puenta la Reina, I found my b/s was dropping in the night (woke up sweating and took glucose tablets) and I had...
