    5-10km/day pilgrims

You got great advice here already; let me re-emphasize it. My wife and I walked SJPdP to Santiago last May, averaging between 10-15 kilometers a day. We were in great shape, but were challenged like you by downhill segments. 1) Start in Pamplona. No sense ruining your entire camino with a bad...

My parting thoughts on my camino

My holiday was great! How was yours? My camino was pretty good too, except it was very different than what people who did 25 caminos before told me. But then again, YMMV! Buen Camino!

A little more on Spiritual goals

I know I said my last post was probably my last post, but several pilgrims asked the question, so here is one more blog item: http://pat-the-expat.com/2018/06/17/be-careful-what-you-pray-for/

My parting thoughts on my camino

Good points, Mooncat. I wasn't looking for personal change, nor a personal test. In fact, I didn't find any of the hikes/hills overwhelming. I didn't like being surprised by how they were described. I am doing another final post about my spiritual goals and outcomes which will touch on that...

My parting thoughts on my camino

Good questions! My wife and I were looking for something challenging and spiritual to do together during our retirement. The Camino seemed to fit the bill. My personal goal was to offer praise and thanks to God for a great life: great wife, kids, grandkids, career, now retirement. As a former...

My parting thoughts on my camino

Good point. I guess I would say that for those who go on but feelings, you are on the most flexible, whatever, Camino, so you can go with that. Very freeing!

    A little levity

Ah, the lost koalas of northern Spain. They used to travel in vast herds across the Meseta, eating eucalyptus to their hearts' content. Then the Spaniards determined how tasty they were, morcilla de Burgos was born, and the herds were no more. A very sad but delicious story.

    Trail types in Mountains

Thanks to all for the information and advice. I will be happy with whatever the Camino provides; My dear wife does not like the element of danger provided by the classic hiking trails we train on. I assured her most of the Camino was not like that, but I wanted to ensure there weren't any...

    Trail types in Mountains

We're preparing for the CF in May. My wife & I walk in the Sierra Madre Occidental range here in Mexico to practice for the elevation gain. I have seen many beautiful pictures along the flatlands of the Camino Frances, and even a few of the first day in the Pyrenees. My question is: are any of...

Looking for a Children's map of Camino Frances

We'll be walking CF in May, and I thought I would get a nice map for our grandchildren to follow along with us from home on the adventure. I need something with large print and enough detail for it to make sense (not a Spain map, or a Europe map, for instance). Anyone run across anything like...
