    Ordering beer in Spain

They do serve one littre bottles in restaurants, too. Propably more in rural areas than big cities.

    Ordering beer in Spain

You have forgotten 'pinta' wich is the 'normal' large beer ' 0,5 littres usually. Most common size ordered in Spanish golf clubs 😁. To my understanding 'jarra' refers to a serving vessel - usually clay - and us used both with wine and beer.

    Lightning strikes

Ooen fields and thunderstorm are allways an unpleasant combination. Once i went under a small bridge, when a storm suddenly came om. A muddy experience, so had to do some thorough rinsing by a little water pump before entering Los Arcoa 😁.

Starting the walk in the afternoon

Or maybe even to Ferreiros 🤔. That would give the option to continue to Gonzar or thereabouts the next day. Portomarin is propably one of the more crowded locations.

    Bears

Exactly so. Problems with brown bears come, if they are wounded or you stumble on them so that they have not seen/heard,/smelled you arrive - especially, if you end up between a mother and its cubs.

    Bears

My father spent in the 50's and early 60's a lot of his work days in the vast forests of northeastern Finland and southern Lappland. There were a lot of brown bears in the area that time, but he never saw one. He was pretty sure, though, that a lot of bears saw him 😁.

    Rainy season on Camino frances

You never know, years are very different. On my first CF from SJPP to Leon in September the weather was very summery all time, and very hot on the messeta. Then next year I was a bit worried to continue from Leon in the end of June. Well, it was around max 16-17°C the whole two weeks. A perfect...

    A long (winding) road.

Have one downwards from the middle of the climb in the third picture and then on the top to both directions. Then also about the same spot as one and two 😁. From 2002 and 2007, I reccon, as had no mobile or camera with me 1996-98.

Long pants and long sleeves in summer? Smart or big mistake?

I have mostly walked with shorts and a short sleave skirt. However, the scorching sun allways on you left side ( French way ) can be too much. Heavy sun lotion and long pants and sleeves can be advisable especially on the meseta. Broad brim hat is a must.

    Camino Family Experience

Exactly my thoughts, too. Still in the late 90's you recognized and at some level interacted with most people who had started within a few days before or after you. Seeing them every now and then on the road and in the refugees and walking a bit with the same rythm untill someone took a rest day...

    Cowboy Bar

It was a nice place to stop, when I passed it in 1997, 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2007. Maybe the first time I just stopped tomtake a quick look outside 🤔. I have no recollection of any 'no photos' rule, but I was rather lazy taking pictures, and of cource the amounts of pilgrims have gone up since...

Where was your most memorable stay and why?

So many for different reasons, but maybe San Bol. There was no toilets and we had to wash with cold water from a small pool outside, but the atmosphere was unique. I had passed it several times earlier, but then on my last Frances I went to take a brake there. Hovever, there happened to be a...

    Overweight on the Frances?

On one of my Caminos there was a young spanish man. He was very overweight, and not usedbtobwalning at all. The walking was really tough for the start. He walked slowly and long days, but managed to do 20k a day. Slowly it started to be easier and easier. For my self - 173 cm - I have been...

Where to stay the night before Santiago....?

Between 1997 - 2007 I stayed four times in Monte de Gozo. Those days most of the people I met on the road seem to stay there the last night. Only once I walked directly to Santiago, as some people I met had made reservation there and had one room available. I think MdG was at least at that...
