    Botafumeiro

I completely agree with the earlier comments. The botafumeiro is neat to see but we didn't find it essential. Visiting the relics in quiet contemplation and taking confession in the cathedral (if you wish) were really transformative for us.

Info on busy or not please on coastal Portuguese camino

We walked the coastal and the spiritual two weeks ago. Aside from Vigo, Pontevedra and Santiago, we saw fewer than 20 pilgrims each day. However, because we were traveling with children, we didn't stay in albergues. Generally, it was a very quiet walk. In fact, I'm hoping to do a busier Camino...

    Advice for mother/daughter duo - last 100+km

That’s what I’d recommend, take a bus to Vigo and taxi to Baiona. It’s a lovely town. Our favorite of the Camino, along with Combarro.

    Advice for mother/daughter duo - last 100+km

Consider starting in Baiona. Lovely seaside village one or two days walk to Vigo. Do the spiritual, take the boat, you’ll need no more than seven days total.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Walking the Camino this summer? The risks of getting COVID

Omicron variants BA.4 & BA.5 (the newer variants alluded to in my original post) are not only adept at infecting fully vaccinated individuals but also at reinfecting recovered individuals. I wouldn’t rely on your previous infection protecting you from reinfection. Buen Camino.

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Walking the Camino this summer? The risks of getting COVID

Let’s face it, if you are planning to walk the Camino this summer, odds are that you’re going to get infected. The newer omicron subvariants currently circulating in Spain, France and Portugal are really good at infecting fully vaccinated and/or recovered pilgrims. I offer this as a fellow...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Vaccine requirements to enter Porto

Our experience flying from DC to Lisbon two weeks ago on TAP was somewhat different than some of the comments above. TAP only checked our vaccination status at check in. I even asked if they wanted to see our negative tests and the agent said no. No one upon arrival in Lisbon asked for anything...

Baiona - Santiago Proposed Stages - Thoughts?

My wife, two daughters (8 & 14) and I will be walking the Camino from Baiona to Santiago via the spiritual variant in May. I'd like to try and do it in 6 days. Do these distances and elevation changes seem reasonable? Day 1 Baiona to Vigo Day 2 Vigo to Arcade Day 3 Arcade to Combarro Day 4...

    Cycling the Espiritual Questions

Thanks for all of the helpful info. I didn‘t realize that the cycling path diverged from the walking path. I assumed the pilgrim’s path was the same, whether on foot, bike or cycle. The bike rental place implied as much when they strongly encouraged us to rent mountain bikes because of the...

    Cycling the Espiritual Questions

My family and I will be visiting Portugal and Spain in May and would like to do the Variante Espiritual on bike if possible. We have a limited amount of time and our seven year old daughter joining us on the journey so we think cycling may be the best option. A few questions spring to mind...
