    DIY hiking wool?

I call these "moral socks". Just by looking at your feet, you know what's right and what isn't.

    DIY hiking wool?

They sell the same stuff for ballet dancers, at a fraction of the price.

    valuables and camera

One tip I heard from a professional photographer was to stick pieces of white masking tape on the corners of your camera. The idea is that it gives the impression of being broken, and no one will steal a camera that's broken and can't be sold.

Camino Baix Maestrat from Vinaros (Mediterranean)?

I've hiked in that part of Spain, and it's absolutely gorgeous. Very low population density. Some hard going at times, so I hope for pilgrims that the pilgrim route doesn't follow the existing GR through the Maestrat.

    Portugal's Fisherman's Trail...help!

Hi Chris, As I recall, the sections where the path carries you near the edge are neither very steep nor very high. Plus, either you'll be cursing the loose sand (bring hiking poles to spread your weight, possibly with snow baskets as well), or you'll be staring off at the amazing views down...

How to train for downhill walking

You can strengthen the muscles in your thighs by doing squats. Ideally, though, you should take some aikido classes: that will really firm up your thighs for the downhills.

    Hiking near Barcelona

A few hours north of Barcelona is Cap de Creus, the Bay of Rosas, the monestary of Sant Pere de Rodes, Cadaques and Dali's house, the Aiguamolls national park and the Roman and Greek ruins of Empuria. I spent a very happy week hiking there about six years ago. (The area is also the setting for...

A gentleman's undercarriage question regarding chafing......

Anti-chafing gel or long boxers. Or both, if the boxers ride up. Try a variety of options, and don't put all your eggs in one basket.

    Camino for cats

Puss in Boots, or trailrunners, or sandals. They should wear what works best for them!

    Questions regarding the Rota Vicentina...

I don't suffer from vertigo, but my sister does and the cliffs weren't a problem for her. Besides the heat (we walked in September when it 30+ degrees and blazing sunlight, the only problem was the very fine sand. We used hiking poles, and got into the habit of just ploughing on in a steady...

10 stages, any Camino: the most beautiful?

I can't claim to have walked more than a couple of hundred Camino kilometres, but the second stage of the Madrid, from Tres Cantos to Manzanares el Real, is some of the loveliest walking I've ever experienced anywhere.

    Coast to interior connections

There's an ecovia that runs most of the way along the Rio Lima from Viana do Castelo to Ponte de Lima. Quite a pleasant walk.
