A breakdown of my Camino Frances costs with a few considerations - May 2023

A friend who is starting their Camino in September asked me what the typical costs for a lunch along the way are currently. Since it’s been 4 years since my last time on The Way, I’m going to defer to this wonderful group. Seeing this thread, I’ll put the question out here: Anyone have any...

    Blogging tool for a non-blogger?

We used Wordpress for our first Camino and Find Penguins for our second. We liked them both! Find Penguins was fun and had the feature where a book could be published from the entries, although we never did create the book! 2019-...

    Merino fans > Costco deal

Not even 5 minutes ago, just after my wife got back from our local Costco here in Canada, I asked if they had the Merino tops and long bottoms in stock again and she noted that they were indeed in stock! We each bought a pair of these "long johns" last fall and wore them all winter! They go in...

    Backpack indecision help!

I'm in agreement with some of the other commenters that 68L is much larger than needed. I used a 40L Gregory Zulu pack in 2019 and had room to spare. However, it weighs 1.3 kg/1300g, or slightly more than the one you chose. https://www.gregorypacks.com/packs-bags/day-packs/zulu-40-1115ZUL40.html...

    Walking sticks Shop in Porto?

Tip- Learn how to properly use the wrist straps. The correct way is to insert the hand from below the loop, then grasp the whole strap and handle of the walking pole. This way, you can use the straps to push off, especially on inclines and downhill, without having to hold the handle. This will...

    SIM card advice

Just visited the Vodafone Portugal website and quickly ended up at this English language page for travellers. A month plan with phone, data with international calling is €20. https://www.vodafone.pt/en/products-services/visiting-portugal.html?i_id=personalizacao-eng-travellers#phone-SIM-card I...

    SIM card advice

Both times we've been to walk, arriving in Madrid first time and Porto, the second time, we got Vodaphone SIMs, usually at an airport kiosk, and the people there are very good at swapping out the SIM, setting it up, and making sure your original SIM is packed safely so you don't lose it when you...

Indecision and questions about Camino for first time- helpful advice from pilgrims requested!

My wife and I did our first Camino in 2016 at age 59. We felt that we were often the youngest of people we met! We started in Ponferrada and walked through to SdC in 2 weeks. We met many single women of all ages walking alone. We did a lot of walking to prepare but not much more than usual. Our...

Video: What's in my Pack? Let the debate begin ...

Great job! I found this wonderful website, The Lighter Pack, where you can input the weight of all your individual items and then analyze what you’ve got and what needs to be pared down. this is my list (although I never completely filled in all the weights!) for my Portuguese coastal Camino in...

A layover in Canada , coming from the US

Up to the point where Coronavirus impacted world travel, it was often possible to get a reasonable flight to many Camino starting points from Canada as many Canadian airlines offered direct flights to smaller cities (Porto for example) due to significant populations of expats from those...

    Porto to Santiago

We did the Coastal route in Sept-Oct 2019. Absolutely wonderful! Would do it again. No too crowded. Perfect weather for walking (around 17-20C), incredible scenery, a few hills. Would do it again. You can see our little photo blog here...
