    Lost/delayed Luggage

I see more advertising lately for shipping luggage ahead of time. Anyone use these services? It might help to know your luggage has been transported and is at your destination before you arrive.

Translation while in phone call - the two phone approach

Decided to do a little research regarding this issue. I speak Spanish at an upper intermediate low advance level but on the phone it can still be quite difficult. Having a flowing conversation is key and difficult to achieve with translations from Google Translate which while it has gotten...

Free "Buen Camino" audio book for students of Spanish

I read and listened to Buen Camino when I did CF. It was 3 separate books but perhaps now it has been consolidated. It's about a young american girl who wins a high school competition for her Spanish and decides to walk the CF on her own. She meets up with people, has some scary moments, and...

How to use 2-factor ID for banking while traveling with a foreign SIM card

Thought this info might be useful so I have copy and pasted it. I would expect all major banks have the same thing. When you're not able to receive texts or calls to your mobile device, use the TD Authenticate app to securely log in. TD Authenticate app is a Two-Step Verification method for...

Tips to Keep your Hiking Shoes Dry in the Rain

For me, big mistake wearing expensive waterproof hiking boots. They were fine for hiking here in Canada in the mountains and they were broken in for a year but for some reason I got blisters right away. I had a hard time giving $300 boots away but I did. Super light weight hiking shoes...

First-time Camino pilgrims with family of four: How to make the most of our last day on stage from Pedrouzo to Santiago

I walked alone on CF a few years ago. When I arrived in Santiago I of course went to get my compostela that day which took a few hours. Then rested and got up early the next morning to attend mass at the cathedral and it was more than I had even expected. I got there about 9:30 I believe. Then I...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD Anyone Caught COVID on the Camino

Living in Alberta Canada. Our Chief Medical Officer said this week if you do a rapid test and you have symptoms and get a positive test, isolate; if you have symptoms and you get a negative rapid test, assume you DO have Omicron and isolate until you have no symptoms or the isolation period...

Spanish language courses - Gold Coast, Australia

There are several excellent podcasts including those for beginner Spanish. Focus on "conversational spanish" if your intention is to use it on the Camino and that it's Castillian (Spain) Spanish. The advantage of podcasts is it eliminates the stress one on one can create when starting out. The...

    Free medical treatment for pilgrims?

I suppose it depends on what free means and where you're from. I have always had all medical treatments todate paid for by my provincial health care (Canada) and I buy medical travel insurance for what may not be covered by my provincial plan when I travel. I don't want any person etc, in Spain...

    Free medical treatment for pilgrims?

I would like to hear from anyone from Alberta Canada that bought AMA travel medical insurance and had to use it in Spain. Did you find it a good experience? Did they pay for treatment directly? I always bought their insurance because others here have told me good things but none used it in Spain.
