LIVE from the Camino Walking the Via de la Plata with New Friends

I’m so glad to hear about your recovery. You’re a woman of great strength, and you have a fan base cheering loudly. Brava! Did you knit your lovely hat? I depart Sevilla tomorrow.

OK, I don't want to be an alarmist, but... If you keep coughing and coughing, and you can't lie down to sleep because of the coughing, and you continue to feel exhausted, and especially if you have a fever and/or chills... you may have pneumonia. It doesn't just go away by itself.

    Strava heat maps

Thanks. It seems that the experts are in agreement. Yesterday I looked at the maps in your 2023 VdlP guide and zoomed in with the heat maps. I found that, at least to Merida, the heat maps could confirm the route that is on paper. I always prefer the arrows, but sometimes they're not there when...

    Strava heat maps

Good advice. I hope someone who has tried it on this particular trail can describe their experience. P.S. I've relied on your advice, too. Thank you for that (belatedly).

    Strava heat maps

Has anyone used Strava heat maps to navigate on VdlP? I'm starting in Sevilla. I will find albergues, etc. with Gerald Kelly's guide. The heat maps can tell me where I am, but do the paths most traveled pertain to the Camino? It worked for me on the Gr 5 in Alsace. Just wondering?

Shortest Pilgrim Accommodation Route on Via Gebennensis (GR65) from Geneva to France

I obtained the Yellow Book that listed Accueil Jacquaire options after I had booked my lodgings. Some of the entries looked like possibilities, but I was worried that the listings were out of date. On the first day we took the bus to Carouge and then walked 20 km to Le Mont-Sion (St-Blaise) and...

Shortest Pilgrim Accommodation Route on Via Gebennensis (GR65) from Geneva to France

I walked the route in September 2022. Due to the late season, concerns about Covid, and the inexperience of my friend, I arranged all lodging in advance. Fortunately I had the resources to stay in several budget accommodations due to the lack of gites d'etape (albergues) on this route. Here are...

    Camino routes map

I bought the map in Le Puy-en-Velay in September, after my walk from Geneva. IGN 922 Les Chemins vers Saint-Jacques de-Compostelle. It's enormous, 100 cm x 150 cm on good quality paper. You will need a large wall. While specific to France, there is a small inset of the major routes in Europe...

4 Extra days. Where would you travel?

I had the same "problem" and an experienced Spanish pilgrim recommended Toledo. It has everything you need and transportation by train was easy. Don't forget to go outside the walls of the old city to find the Roman ruins. I loved it.
