    Meals in Roncesvalles, worth it?

Hi. Pilgrim mass is at 20.00 from Monday to Friday and at 18.00 on weekends and holidays. You have two timeslots to dinner: 19.00 and 20.30. So both allow you to attend pilgrim's mass. And i totally agree with Bradypus. I only choose dinner, because you can have a way better breakfast in...

If I don't stop in Zubiri, What do you recommend?

Definitely Larrasoaña and stay at Albergue San Nicolás 👌

What is the best way to check the weather on the Camino?

Well it seems to me that you have some trouble in understating what I write since what you understand is the opposite of my words. I never said I condemned them for not having the right gear for "mountain expedition". I said exactly the contrary. Nobody, including me, carries the gear for...

What is the best way to check the weather on the Camino?

Well, sorry but I totally disagree with you. They were at mid August, hence mid summer. They got into trouble because they didn't had, consciously or unconsciously, the updated weather information on high Napoleon Route which indicated that there were snowstorm conditions for the next day...

    Policia and Pilgrims

I'm not sure about police stations, but I reckon that they might. I got mine from a car patrol, when I was heading to Los Arcos 😉

What is the best way to check the weather on the Camino?

Just a little episode... In 2019 i finished CF on 1st of August and although we didn't get the scorching heat we had this summer, on average the temperatures were above 30° all over the route. Three weeks later a group of 20 something Irish pilgrims had to be rescued near Izandorre refuge on...

What is the best way to check the weather on the Camino?

Meteoblue and Windy for sure 👍. And I also add the Meteogram app. It is all about having a good selection of weather information providers that deal well with fast changing altitude weather conditions.

You can use the Meteoblue weather app and search for the location: Col de Bentarte 😉

    Policia and Pilgrims

The Spanish and Portuguese police have only one mission regarding pilgrims: assure them that they're present in case of any necessity and ready to help pilgrims in any way they can. Both times I met Spanish policemen on CF, I had a great conversation with them and even a nice stamp 😊.

Tips for Solo Walking the CP Route in April 2023

I would advise to be careful with April planning because of the portuguese school vacations around Easter holiday, from 1 to 16. And a lot of people, including student groups, choose that time period to do the Portuguese Camino's either Central or Coastal one.

Walking the San Salvador: tips and assistance needed

You can use the Buen Camino app or download from Wikiloc site gpx files to use in any GPS navigation app. Btw, this year I'll also do Camino San Salvador + Primitivo, but I'll start in San Vincente de La Barquera to do the Camino Lebaniego + Vadiniense (across Picos de Europa) and connect to CF...

Tips for Tackling O Cebreiro Hill During Your Camino Walk

I think that the difficulty perception totally depends on each individual hiking experience. The majority of people aren't even casual walkers, let alone experienced hikers. So I totally understand that most find truly challenging sections like walking up to Orisson, to Alto del Perdón, to...

Stop Half Way between Pamplona and Puente La Reina

Last July, on my second Camino Francés, I went from Larrasoana to Uterga. It was Saint Fermin festivities in Pamplona so too crowded for my taste. In Cizur Menor, only the Albergue de Orden de Malta was open. In Zariquiegui, both albergues were closed. So I chose to stay in Albergue Camino del...

    Unusual places to collect sellos/stamps

My special stamp I got from an English painter who lived in a recovered house by the ancient path between Triacastela and Sarria, near San Xil. The stamp was literally a tiny original painting directly on the Camino's passport. This was in 2019. This year I tried to visit him again (and get...
