I went via Villa do Conde last May. It was a hair-raising experience. Lots of traffic whizzing by, no shoulder on the road, and zig-zagging across the road to avoid oncoming traffic around blind corners. There are also several places where there are walls on the side of the road and no shoulder...
This is my favorite way to 'rest' as well. I did short days into the cities/towns where there was something I wanted to see or have more time to explore. I booked a private room to (usually) check in early and relax and sleep in the next day.
I agree, these items really increase the pack weight. I carry 1/2 of a Dr. Bronner's 3 in 1 soap and use it for hair, body, and clothes washing. I bring a very small sunscreen stick and a travel-sized toothpaste. No other items are brought (I have short hair and do not use a brush/comb).
I disagree about the lunch at Borda; mine was excellent and it lasted for two days as it was a huge sandwich. Borda was fabulous. Real cotton pillowcases, lovely, new showers/bathrooms, large, fluffy white towels for a small fee, curtains surrounding the bunks (all lower bunks), and gorgeous...
Agree. I was in an albergue in Hornillos and another pilgrim stayed her mattress with permethrin indoors. I thought I was going to choke to death. The fumes were horrible.

I am using one now. It has helped me locate my bag several times when the bag was left at the municipal albergue instead of my casa rural. Definitely recommend using a air tag in forwarded luggage.
