A wide toe box trail runner

I have been wearing Topo ultra ventures for the Portuguese Camino and the Kumano kodo. They seem to be a blend of the altra toe box and hoka comfort.

Switching to central - Mindelo or Vila do Conde?

I went via Villa do Conde last May. It was a hair-raising experience. Lots of traffic whizzing by, no shoulder on the road, and zig-zagging across the road to avoid oncoming traffic around blind corners. There are also several places where there are walls on the side of the road and no shoulder...

    Finding this a bit lonely

There are definitely more pilgrims on the Central route; the spiritual variant is actually quite popular because it is incredibly beautiful.

    Rest Days/Stops

This is my favorite way to 'rest' as well. I did short days into the cities/towns where there was something I wanted to see or have more time to explore. I booked a private room to (usually) check in early and relax and sleep in the next day.

    Quiet pole tips?

Agree about the Decathlon tips being quieter than, for example, the Leki tips. I even had several people remark to me that my poles were so quiet.

Help! Pack too heavy! — CF Sept & Oct — Senior Woman

I agree, these items really increase the pack weight. I carry 1/2 of a Dr. Bronner's 3 in 1 soap and use it for hair, body, and clothes washing. I bring a very small sunscreen stick and a travel-sized toothpaste. No other items are brought (I have short hair and do not use a brush/comb).

    Borda Albergue Services ?

I disagree about the lunch at Borda; mine was excellent and it lasted for two days as it was a huge sandwich. Borda was fabulous. Real cotton pillowcases, lovely, new showers/bathrooms, large, fluffy white towels for a small fee, curtains surrounding the bunks (all lower bunks), and gorgeous...

    Patches on my backpack?

I used double-stick velcro dots. The sticky surfaces attach to the pack and the badge; then the velcro sides attach to each other. Works great!

    Permethrin

Agree. I was in an albergue in Hornillos and another pilgrim stayed her mattress with permethrin indoors. I thought I was going to choke to death. The fumes were horrible.

    Entrance to Portomarin

"climbing down a treacherous and dangerous piece before the crossing of the bridge' Yes, there is a channel of rock that slopes downward sharply before the bridge; it reminded me of the descent into Zubiri, but it was much, much shorter. This channel was perhaps 40 feet long. You could do what...

    Apple Air Tag

I am using one now. It has helped me locate my bag several times when the bag was left at the municipal albergue instead of my casa rural. Definitely recommend using a air tag in forwarded luggage.

thank you! I've been looking for a good description of cycling the Camino Frances...
