    Getting Nervous

I walked from Porto to Santiago less than a month ago. You'll love it! Buen camino!

Just back from my first camino... (and no blisters!!)

When you say Balona do you refer to Baiona? Boardwalk is only the first couple of days after Porto, so no. It is mainly on paths in woods, tarmac or cobblestones. Not a particularly difficult camino but there are quite a few ascents and descents (usually not that steep though). I have met other...

Urgent Advice Needed - Coastal route VS Central route

Hi Lynn, Yes, I do have a list of albergues but I really suggest you go with the flow :) Somewhere in this forum there is an excel document with a list of all albergues on the coastal route - that was a great help when planning my itinerary. Anyway, here's a list of my stops: Povoa de Varzim...

Urgent Advice Needed - Coastal route VS Central route

Hi Lynsmio, I am just back from my first ever camino. I walked the Coastal Route from Porto. I originally planned 12 days, but managed to walk all the way in just 10 days. The coastal route is well signposted and easy to follow. These were my stages: Porto - Matosinhos (10 km) Matosinhos -...

Just back from my first camino... (and no blisters!!)

I followed the coastal route all the way to Redondela - it is absolutely stunning. Gorgeous!!! I am so happy I walked it. I got so spoilt by the scenery that the last few days on the central route were, I'm afraid to say, a bit boring after that. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Just back from my first camino... (and no blisters!!)

I would like to add one more thing to the list (also in reply to JudyJay): 11) stop for a pee break whenever you can. Whether you see a cafe, or if it happens to be a deserted, private stretch of the camino... do it!!! You might have to wait for miles before you get another chance. @JudyJay...

Just back from my first camino... (and no blisters!!)

I am just back from my first camino: portuguese, coastal way (from Porto). Needless to say it was a real adventure, and I loved it. I am, as you can guess, already aching to go on my next camino. It was a very successful trip also because of all the advice I got from this forum. Normally I am...

    Which UK insurance?

In the end I bought a normal travel insurance, and thank goodness I didn't need it at all, although it did make me feel a lot safer. Yes of course I had already packed my EHIC card with me, again, luckily I had no need for it. ;-)

Guide to costal route in English

Having just returned from my Camino Portugues, I can say that the guide I took with me (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/9898256443/?tag=casaivar-21), recommended on this forum, is invaluable! Before leaving I was a bit disappointed as I was expecting more. However, once on the camino I have come to...

    Which UK insurance?

Hi everyone, my departure date is getting nearer and nearer! Less than 2 weeks to go. Time to finalise the last few details, one of which is: can anyone recommend a good health insurance? Reading this forum in the past I recall some people mentioned that certain policies do not cover the...

How Many People Walked The Camino Without Any Training ?

Is that the case for all routes? Or just for the CF in the summer months?

I finally bought a Merino fleece...

Update on the fleece: I went for a walk today. It was sunny but chilly, 6°C. For comparison, I was wearing the same dress as that night, the fleece and my super-warm winter coat. Very soon I had to take the coat off and I just walked with the dress and the fleece - so at least it is definitely...

Knitting birds of freedom on the camino

I wish I could bring my knitting on the camino, but I am nowhere near your level of ability. Good luck! I'd love to see pictures.

I finally bought a Merino fleece...

Thanks everyone!! Your opininions are very helpful! Have I? How can you tell? (genuine question! I am very ignorant in this matter) I was convinced that the fleece I bought was a 200. I don't remember where I read it, but I was doing quite a bit of research before buying it and I remember...

I finally bought a Merino fleece...

...but now I am concerned it might not be enough to keep me warm! I have always been the kind of person that gets cold easily. I bought this really nice one from Icebreaker which I believe is a 200? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00PXHKC30/?tag=casaivar-21. Of course I am now testing it...
