where to stay for for more than two nights

I second Burgos. Wonderful food and amazing sites. We also decided on a break from hostels in Burgos and using laterooms.com got a great deal in a smart city centre hotel.

    The curse of the Camino

I saw my surgeon today and he has said because of my long term diabetes and risk of infection I can't travel for 4 weeks! We have now rebooked 22nd April 2014 so we will return a year almost to the day we had to leave. Hoping third time lucky!

What kind of ear plugs work best for light sleepers?

Try mighty plugs available from Amazon and other Internet sites. They reduce noise entering the ear by 34 decibels and are reusable. You can buy multi packs and of all the types we tried were the only ones that delivered on not falling out, comfort and really effective.

    The curse of the Camino

At the moment the pain is incredible because of swelling, I go back to the fracture clinic on Friday to have it re set! I walk with Nordic poles that strap around my thumbs and that won't be possible for approx 6 weeks. With some other underlying health considerations I need my Dr to be on side...

    The curse of the Camino

Sometimes our path to to the Camino is a challenge. In April we had to cut short our walk due to a family bereavement and we carefully planned our return trip for September. As we booked our flights for September 5th and reconnected with friends who were also returning in September we started to...

Glucose availability on the Camino Francés

As a diabetic for over 30 years I found it easier to reduce my Insulin levels dramatically to avoid the risk of hypo's. hopefully with good control the need for glucose tablets is minimised and the small weight of bringing a few packs of a brand you know from home is the better option.

How the Camino to changed you

Today I got really excited about a new pair of shoes......not a red sole in sight but a great pair of Inov Roclite 275 Gortex! A year ago I would have been checking out heels but having started our Camino in April(regulars will know we returned home due to a bereavement) and booked our return...

This time will be different...less is more!

Louise has just announced she is taking her poncho! I will stick to my waterproof jacket, trousers, backpack cover and dry bags. No doubt when we set off in September and resume our daily blog you can all see the results of our decision. Another real benefit to our Camino part two is a new set...

This time will be different...less is more!

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed my mis spelling of Berocca! My excuse is Louise was carrying them and I only ever saw it fizzing in a beaker each morning. It delivers vitamins and minerals and is available from all good chemists. My responsibility was carrying a product called nuun...

This time will be different...less is more!

First time round we got caught leaving Pamplona and the poncho was a nightmare in windy conditions. Everything inside my backpack is packed into waterproof bags so we never had any issues with our gear getting wet and also makes everything easier to find as contents were written on the outside...

This time will be different...less is more!

As Louise and I prepare to return to the Camino cut short by bereavement in April we have decided on a few changes. I have accepted that I am not going to be the Camino Chemist! Last time I took not one set of antibiotics but three different types to cover all eventualities. I had every type of...

Returning to finish what we started

Scruffy, after the shock of being in Castrojeriz and having the news we did hopefully nothing will phase us. I head out to Tuscany a week today to do some hot weather training. The best vineyards are a bit of a climb so added motivation to practise a few climbs!

Returning to finish what we started

Flights are booked and Louise and I are ready to finish our Camino. When we flew home in April due to a family bereavement we knew in our hearts that we had to return this year to finish what we started. We fly back on September 4th and arrive in Castrojeriz to start walking on the 5th. Our blog...

Back home with my thoughts on a very brief Camino

Julie, enjoy the anticipation of planning your return. Louise and I also had our Camino cut short due to a death in the family and have now been home a month. We return in September to finish our Camino. If our experience is anything to go by the tears last a bit longer than just the trip home...

I'm planning to walk the Camino Frances in September 2014

Plum pud, my friend Louise and I started our walk in April with a wealth of information gleaned from this forum. No question too stupid and an answer for everything we spent months trawling for hints and tips from people who had walked this path. For us the journey was one of mixed emotions as...
