    Diversity on the Camino

One extra vote for Uganda! My wife is Ugandan and last week we completed the Camino from Lisbon to SDC in 22 days. In March this year we completed the Primitivo. A person's colour means nothing to us - and it made no difference at all to our experience (a refreshing change from some other...

    Bed race-Norte

Just come back from the Norte from Biarritz to Santiago with some diversions (22 days, 949km, 22,100 meters of ascent). No problems with finding beds. The only place I got a bit stuck was Zarautz where many places were full. I had to wander round a bit before I found a decent hotel for EUR 50...

LIVE from the Camino Camino Primitivo May 2023

Buen Camino Alex I did the Primitivo in March this year. Had driving rain most days - when no rain either wind or snow with the occasional glimpse of sun. Nevertheless was a great trip - finished off going to Finisterre and Muxia with better weather. Hope the weather is better for you. 7.1kg...

Alert Camino Primitivo closed by forest/grassland fire in the Tineo district

This is appalling and will definitely spoil the visual aspect of what was the highlight of the Primitivo for me. Three weeks ago there was considerable snow above 1000 meters and driving rain most days on our Primitivo (Oviedo – SDC – Muxia). Amazing to think that it has gone from one extreme to...

Best shop in Santiago to buy a good poncho?

Agreed - Decathlon. Some of the quality of the lower priced products may not be the best (you get what you pay for) but they really are the "one stop shop" in continental Europe. I just wish they would open in Denmark where I currently live.

We had almost 1000 pilgrims yesterday...

The bounce back after Covid seems to be in full force, along with many now reassessing their priorities in life. I think it will be a very busy summer. I plan to do the northern route in June and hopefully This will be before the main rush in July/August along the coast.

    Missing the Camino

Thanks for sharing. Agreed that the best remedy is to buy some guidebooks (from Ivar?) and start planning, even if you have no dates/routes in mind.

    Primitivo - Conditions report?

We did the Primitivo a few weeks ago (March 3 - 12). Although the weather was not the best (driving rain and wind for over half the days) there was not too much mud. The day after Pola through the hills had a foot of snow over 1000m which had not yet melted. Much of this may be gone now. Did...

    My solo walk from Valenca

This is great advice. It is too tempting to put up with the discomfort from blisters and push on through. Walking with blisters can change ones gait/stride by an undetectable amount. This could lead to severe muscle/tendon strains tears later on. As we get older stretching is becoming more...

    CF Backwards? West to east.

Would also be interested to hear eastbound experiences; but if travelling solo it is good to meet up with others on a regular basis and share stories. It is good to meet up with someone a few days later and is fascinating to hear their experiences.

    Early morning coffee

Hello On the Primitivo in March (two weeks ago) I took a 0.5 litre flask and a small supply of instant coffee and creamer which are lightweight. We did not start much before 0730 so in many hotels and auberges it was not a problem to ask for boiling water to put in the flask. Even if we had...
