    Walk + Bike

I did this last year as I did not have the 31-32 days to do it as a walk alone. If I were to do it again, and I would love to, I'd do one or the other. When cycling I lost contact with the fellow pilgrims whom I had met on the walk. Cycling gear and walking gear don't mix and I would organise a...

New member from Sydney and some questions...

Lisa, I walked the Camino on sabbatical last year - but in September. It was hot! I have scanned the posts and agree with the replies I have read ... but my tuppence worth! 1 - camel back saved me ... went through 3 two litres a day 2 - it is all about your feet ... merino socks inners and...

What is the one Albergue that you would say not to miss

Paroquial Hostel in Hospital de Orbigo would be my pick. I arrived hot and a little frantic but the welcome was such that I quickly lost any anxiety I was feeling. Having said this there was no albergue that I would not return to. I was surprised by this having read posts on this site prior to...

What did you take that was "too much"?

I took too many changes of clothes. You only need one on one off. I also took a sleeping mat just in case and then sent it home. I ditched the plate and bowl I took and I sent home the the gortex jacket I had. I ended up with just under 10k in the pack. I was walking and cycling so I sent on...

A sad day on the Camino Frances today.

This is incredibly sad as placing my trinket at the Crux de fero was the emotional climax of my pilgrimage. I had placed an amythest that my sons had found in a beautiful stream in the north of England.

    After Santiago

I spent 4 wonderful days in Santiago itself and then too little time in Barcelona before returning to Australia. Seeing Sagrada Familia was a wonderful way to put a full stop on my pilgrimage. Enjoy the experience. Scott

    Walking and cycling

Thank you so much for these ideas they are all helpful. I am wondering though if the thought of hiring a bike and then returning it in another town is possible? If I could buy one cheaply I would be happy to leave it a a church or refuge when I started walking. I have a "collapsible" pack which...

    Walking and cycling

As I have limited time to complete the Camino from SJPP and do not want to catch a bus to make up time - has anyone walked and cycled? I was thinking of purchasing a bike in Burgos and then cycling the Mesata to sell the bike prior to walking into Galacia. Any thoughts? Scott

    Class of 2010

After much planning and organising those I will leave at home I will be on my way to Santiago from SJPP in late August. First timer who cannot wait!

    Limited time

My plans for my pilgrimage are taking shape and I now know that I will be only able to spend 22 days walking in total. I will have to leave Santiago at a set date to return home. So my question is: What do I leave out and are the bus links between towns good enough to rely on so that I can skip...

first time pilgrim: How long does it take to walk?

This is very helpful thanks - I will be doing it alone and I understand the need t ostart relatively slowiy. I think I have now confirmed for myself that I should start inside Spain to give myself enough time to do it and a little at the end.

first time pilgrim: How long does it take to walk?

Thanks for all those thoughts - they have helped me deal with the dilemma of "doing it because it is there" as opposed to "walking my pilgrimage".
