Walking the camino with a residue of thrombosis?

BTW, I made it. Reached Santiago in last October and I am currently doing section hikes on the Hessian Camino in Germany on saturdays or bank holidays.

    Name on all my stuff?

On my camino 2018 I shared a washing machine with another german guy. When it was ready we figured out that we had the same decathlon underpants with the same size and color. No chance to distinct them. So we sat there laughing beside the washing machine. It is a nice memory and I still do not...

Advice: Restart Camino from SJPP or from where I left off 5 years ago?

I will start over at the place where I left the Camino del Norte in Nueva, Asturia, but If I had the time for a full camino I would do it from the start again and allow me some kind of meditative ritual when I would reach the point where I left. Because for me it is a good thing to finish the...

Planning my Camino del Norte route

With option A you can have your last evening until you reach Santander in the famous albuerge in Güemes that is run by the legendary Ernesto. Sometimes there are more than 100 pilgrims there. You would have steeper climbs in comparison to the other option, but the landscape is real nice there.

Death of a German pilgrim on the Camino Frances

Ruhe in Frieden, Pilger! My thoughts are with him and also with his daughter. I am planning to have a camino with my daughter some years later when she is grown up. Currently she is 12. Because of my health condition this sad scenario is something that I have to face as a risk. But for me it...

Camino frances vs camino norte in Aug/Sep,

I have walked the Camino del Norte in September and it was far from beeing overcrowded with only one shining exception, the legendary Albuerge in Güermes from Ernesto.

Camino frances vs camino norte in Aug/Sep,

I would recoomend not to start in Irun but later in Bilbao, when you want to avoid steep climbs. The Basque country can be a bit of a challenge. At that time you mostly have a cooling wind from the atlantic ocean, because you are close to the coast.

What about contemplation and personal development on the Camino when you are a scumbag?

Yesterday I have returned from a two day hike that was intended as a test of my gear and myself for my second half of the Camino in October. I must admit that I did poor planning and the way that I walked in Taunus (the hills north of Mainz and Wiesbaden in Germany) was sometimes very boring...

    Yet another sleeping bag question!

I used the MT500 from Decathlon, but had to replace the compression bag for a better one. It worked also for sleeping outside under my tarp at the beach several times on my Camino del Norte.

Planning a Fall Del Norte Pilgrimage in 2022

I will continue the Camino del Norte from Nueva (between Santander and Oviedo) to Fisterre on September 28th.

Walking the camino with a residue of thrombosis?

My doc told my that my DVT was already there some time before it was detected. I got a tick bite and was thinking that this caused my pain in my leg. It took some time until it was clear that a DVT existed and got a false treatment by the first doc that I consulted. I have to wear a...

Walking the camino with a residue of thrombosis?

Thanks a lot for the support, I just ordered a customized dog tag for me in form of a necklace. I will prepare a red water tight first aid kit for the side pocket of my backpack including some extra QuickClot and tape that I just bought at the pharmacy. I will construct an additional tag for my...

Walking the camino with a residue of thrombosis?

Hello everyone, last August I was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis and I had to stop hiking for some time. During the last ultrasonography I asked my doctor whether it would be possible to walk the camino next October and he agreed, but I would have to use my compression stocking (only one...

It becomes harder to find germans on the camino

I am working on "se jermen acksent" and use Hirschtalg secretely (vegans hate it), but the other stuff does not relate to me. I have Meindl boots (I think they are more common among Germans) a Bulgarian Tashev backpack and a shiny yellow t-shirt and bandana. And the best beer I had on the camino...

It becomes harder to find germans on the camino

Dear fellow pilgrims, in the past it was very easy to figure out whether a pilgrim's origin was Germany or not. The best indicators were two yellow items. The yellow travel guide from Raimund Joos published by Outdoor and the yellow tube of hand wash gel that every german knows: "Rei in der...
