Pilgrim masses in Santiago cathedral to be suspended from Monday 28 January 2019

I missed the Botafumero on my first Camino last April, I planned to go back this year hoping to see it. Now I’m debating if I should postpone till next year. I know that’s not the principal reason to go but I certainly had a heart set on seeing it once at least.

    Camino ingles. Starting in UK

I have been thinking about doing another Camino in 2019, and this idea occurred to me. I would welcome any suggestions criticisms or advice. I was thinking of doing the English way but starting in England. Like for example the Cornwall way. Then maybe if there is such a thing a ferry over to...

    Not what I expected but...

Before I left I was conscious that i was "only" walking 114 KM. not the whole Camino. And I got over that. But one day I saw that little message about St James spray painted on one of the stone markers ! Rude!

    Not what I expected but...

I did your exact same journey last spring. Yes some people are judge-y ("St James didn't start in Sarria") but most are not. If you're a bit down - look around, where you are, isnt it amazing that you got there? I too saw many people older than me, doing much better - I learned that many...

    CHoosing the time

Thank you for your practical advice. Each of us has a special reason to go. I went on behalf of my late (Spanish) husband - he would have loved to see the botafumeiro. It was disappointing but no it did not detract from my experience. But if i do return I hope to arrange things so I do see it...

    CHoosing the time

Oh no when I went in April, interior renovations were not happening. People saw the a swinging in masses the day before I came and the next day. Which just my bad luck. In September I had a friend over there and she said the renovations were going on inside. I have to believe they want to...

    CHoosing the time

Last April I walked from Sarria to Santiago and it was an incredible experience,The only minor complaint I had was I did not get to see the botafumero even tho I went to three masses. I hope to go on another Camino in 2019, and I’m trying to decide between going in April Easter, or in July for...
