New annual record number of Compostelas already reached today

1250 km in 31 days is amazing! That's an average of more than 40 km per day for an entire month, more than I can handle! A few years ago, I walked the Via de la Plata (from Seville) in 38 days (only 1008 km). On that Camino, I remember walking a few days with a Spanish pilgrim from Mallorca...

What to do? Carrion to Sahagún

Carrion to Sahagun is 39 km. Personally, I wouldn't do it, but some people seem ok with that level of effort. If you do reach Sahagun, I'd recommend the albergue de peregrinos de la Santa Cruz. I stayed there coming up from Madrid last year, and loved the communal dinner, which makes for a much...

    Camino Inglés

I walked the camino ingles earlier this month, and had no trouble finding a bed at the albergues de peregrinos. In general, they open at 13:00, and while some of them do fill up over time, there's no problem finding a bed if you're there when they open. I slept in Neda, walked past Pontedeume...

    Monasteries in Spain

That would be the albergue de la Santa Cruz in Sahagun. It's a great place to stay with wonderful hospitality around a communal dinner! I stayed there after joining the camino frances on my way up from Madrid last year, and recommend it very highly.

    Monasteries in Spain

I stayed at Samos last year. Gronze doesn't indicate that it's closed at this time.

    How many days

From SJPP, about 30 days +- averaging 27-28 km per day for the entire journey. If you can manage that day after day, then assume about a month. That first day from Saint Jean to Roncevalles over the mountains is pretty tough.

6 full days to walk, what route?

For a 6-day walk, some 100+ km options would include from Lugo (Primitivo), Ourense (Sanabres), Tui (Portuguese), Sarria (French) or from Ferrol or Coruna (English). Honestly, the French camino from Sarria is very overcrowded, so it would be my least preferred option.

    Rota das Carmelitas

Hola everyone, I'm planning to walk the Carmelite route from Coimbra to Fatima in mid September. I will first walk the Camino Ingles in Galicia from Ferrol, spend a night or two in Santiago, and then catch the ALSA bus to Coimbra, and start the walk from there after a day or two. I've been to...

    Guadalupe pilgrimage photos (Mexico)

Camino de Madrid pilgrim here. I was fortunate to experience Guadalupe day in Mexico. Not at the basilica in Mexico City, but in Guanajuato state. The town of Los Rodriguez near San Miguel de Allende has major festivities over several days leading up to Dec 12. The celebrations are much more...

Connecting the Camino de Madrid to the Via de la Plata

I walked the Madrid camino recently, and was contemplating switching over to the Levante to avoid the traffic of the CF in Sahagun. The shortest connection point is between Villeguillo and Medina del Campo, about 30 km. Right after Villeguillo, there's a sign pointing to Olmedo, and then from...

Pre registering for QR code (for Compostela)

I arrived in Santiago this morning, and headed straight to the oficina de peregrinos. I don't carry a phone with me, so I was not able to scan the QR code, but the guard let me in and told me to complete a paper form. I couldn't believe how short the line was this morning (at 10 AM). I was in...

Padron to Santiago … blister woes

Pick up some Compseed in a pharmacy and apply a patch to your blister. You will feel instantly better and will be able to complete the walk. I had a blister tormenting me relentlessly into Astorga, and that Compseed was a life saver.

LIVE from the Camino Tres Cantos -- camino goes past town not into it -- and more, on Camino de Madrid

I don't think that there was a red cross above the yellow arrow when I passed through there, so it's nice to see that someone has reacted to my complaint. In O Cebreiro now, relaxing after that tough climb from Las Herrerias.

Bad weather - Is it walkable?

Hi from Leon. I'm also going to be affected by the rain in two days. By then, I will be in Astorga and heading into the mountains. I will likely walk no matter what. I've got my clothes and sleeping bag in large ziplock bags, so they should remain dry even if water enters my backpack. My main...

    Madrid. Cercedilla to La Granja

Made it to Sahagun today. The hospitaleros at the municipal albergue in Santervas (last lap before Sahagun) were great.
