Coastal alternatives to the Norte's asphalt

Thank you for this. I will be cycling from Biarritz to Santiago in September 2020. I will follow parts of Camino Norte but also wish to visit some lighthouses and beaches and make use of the coastal roads and paths. This resource will be very useful.

Anyone cycling Camino Norte in 2020?

I have been riding a bike for nearly 60 years. What gave you the impression that I would not use a bell?

Opinions--new safety system for hikers being trialed in Portugal

I dont think that would stand up. Surely, as well as giving the coordinates you would also tell them which town you had left and where you were heading. You always repeat coordinates. Coordinates of one type or another have always been used. Which is what makes the new system so unusual.

All you have to do is push the blue button on Google maps and it gives you the coordination to within a metre of where you are anywhere in the world. The 3 word system sounds very complicated.

Another way to give exact coordinates for most of the time, is to open Google maps on your phone and hold your finger on the blue position marker for about 3 seconds. It will display your exact coordinates at the top of the screen.

Anyone cycling Camino Norte in 2020?

I am planning to cycle Camino Norte in September from Biarritz. I am planning the route at the moment and intend to use the Camino Norte Route but also mix it in with roads, lighthouses and other tracks. Is anybody else planning to cycle in 2020 who would like to share route information?

    Bikepacking on the camino.

Over the years I have bike packed parts of Camino Frances. Finding quiet clean places to put a bivvy bag is really not at all difficult. In my experience, if you walk a couple of hundred meters off almost any track in the world, you can find a spot to lay down. I will be riding Camino Norte...

    Have you been sponsored?

I used to run marathons for charity. I think it is a worthy thing to do. But it also adds more pressure and expectations to an already difficult challenge.
