I can`t understand this.
I stayed for 4 nights at the start of December and everything was top class.
This was my 5th time to stay there and it was the same as every other time. Walking in the door felt like returning home. Meeting some of the staff who have been there for years is always special.
I got the overnight train from Lisbon Oriente to Irun. Arrived in around noon and walked to Passages de San Juan which was a nice intro to the Norte.
Great memories of the whole trip to Santiago.
From Bilbao you will be finding it hard to get a bed along the coast for quite a number of days...
Valcarlos is a good stop to ease you into the camino.
Especially at the end of January when the snow can be very deep.
A good pair of boots is essential at that time of year . I have been ordered to stick to the road by police a few times if the path is dangerous .
Have a great trip.
Good luck on your Camino and it would be of interest to lots of pligrims like me who may be starting from Lisbon in October/November to hear from you re albergues etc
I started from Porto in late October 2016 and was persuaded by people in the Albergue to do the inland route as lots of albergues etc were already closed .
Rained every day and the sun shone every day back home in Donegal, Ireland.
BUT I had a great camino and met lots of great people.
I have the last few times flown from Dublin to Paris ,spent the day sightseeing and got the night train to Bayonne and then the bus to SJPP and had plenty of daylight to walk to Valcarlos ( winter walking)
As far as I see from trying to plan walking from Aosta the main problem is how to get to Aosta from Milan.
Hoping to start in late April so plenty of time to sort it out I hope
