    Struggling on the Le Puy

Le Puy to Conques is a tough part of the pilgrimage IMO. Beautiful scenery but the booking ahead feeling a little too rigid and the unexpectedly monocultural feeling was a shock to me after the Frances. After Conques, for me it became a little easier. My french improved. The route seemed...

Questions about gîtes from Le Puy to Conques

Personal cheques have all but disappeared in the UK. I was amazed to see them still in use in France.

Solo Australian leaving Le Puy for SJPDP on 18th Aug wants company

Some more suggestions for you... the French gites are generally very well equipped, I have got by with a sleeping bag liner only, they will provide blankets. Once you get to SJPP you can buy a very lightweight sleeping bag which you're more likely to need as not every albergue provides blankets...

Solo Australian leaving Le Puy for SJPDP on 18th Aug wants company

I think you'll be OK! I'm walking the Le Puy route in stages. My spoken French is weak and I struggle to understand on the phone. I got round this by texting. French mobile phone numbers usually start with 06 or 05, so choose those ones to text. If you have the Miam Miam Dodo book, it has a...

Accommodation from Le Puy to StJPdP

The Abbey in Conques took credit cards, which was very useful indeed!

    Le Puy route anyone?

I took Eurostar to Lyon and either a connecting train or bus from there (cannot now recall) Journey was easy! Am still walking the Le Puy in stages, starting from Cahors on 25 August. French walking groups are very friendly, I found and we had good company at all our stops. The demi pension...

What public transport might be available in the event I can't do every stage - starting at Le Puy

It depends very much on where you are. There are towns that have bus services but that would need careful research. Taxis are expensive and in small places very hard to book. We got caught out one time on the Le Puy, underestimated badly the time we'd take, stopped for very late afternoon...

Backpack Etiquette - or I don't want to be a Jerk

I used a carabiner to hang my pack from bunk posts (I was pretty much always in the top bunk because I walked with an older friend). They are very lightweight to carry and able to hold heavy weights.

    Women's Underwear Thread(s): Tops n Bottoms

I wore my normal nylon underwired bra and had a spare to change into for evenings. Unless I'd got very sweaty I wore a bra twice. They dried pretty quickly but I didn't care about pinning them to my backpack to dry if required.

I need extreme sun protection. Suggestions welcome.

I have worn gloves to keep the sun off my hands as using poles exposes them more. Lightweight merino probably most comfortable but I used cheapo thin fleece.

Left Luggage in Lyon Part Dieu

I'm thinking about leaving a bag in left luggage at Lyon (with some clothes and luxury items for a few days in Paris after a week on the Camino). Has anyone used the left luggage there for more than a day? I'd be interested in any information on it - thank you
