    Daily costings

I recently watched this video and was struck by how accurate it was in terms of what we spent on our three caminos. I hope you find it as helpful:

    Cash vs Credit or Debit

Whatever you end up doing (you'll be fine), make sure you bring some euros back to the US with you, so you won't have to worry about this when you return to Spain for another Camino! (100€ is a safe bet.) Buen Everything!!

I am "gifting" the Camino for Christmas. Need advice!

Hi! This is a wonderful idea and I've done the same myself for several friends and extended family members. The gifts themselves have been a little more indirect, however, as I wanted to avoid making specific decisions for them regarding shoe/boot choices, itineraries, equipment, etc... It was...

    Camino Baztan

No cause for concern. There is plenty of water along this route. I don't recall ever having to carry more than a litre or not being able to replenish at a fuente, a tap or a bar.

Beginning my preparations - Why? Where? How? etc.

If your plan is to walk right away, you may want to look into starting in Biarritz and walking to Bayonne (7.5 k) where the Camino Baztan begins - it goes from there to Trinidad de Arre (just short of Pamplona) where it joins the Camino Frances. The Baztan is a less-traveled route and, you might...

    Bed Bugs

One important thing to remember: If you discover that you've been bitten, there's a chance that you're carrying multiple bedbugs on your person, your gear, (and if you're traveling with someone close) your companion. Essentially, you've become a carrier. It's important that you think about...

    Cancer, Kintsugi, Camino: A Memoir

If you'd like to know more about the art of Kintsugi, and its application in everyday life, there is a stunning and beautiful book (published last year) by Makoto Fujimura, called Art & Faith, which in its own way I'd recommend for every pilgrim to read.

Walking from Bayonne to St Jean Pied de Port: A Perfect Preparation for the Camino Frances

David, my wife and I did it in 2019 as well, in October. When did you walk the route?

Walking from Bayonne to St Jean Pied de Port: A Perfect Preparation for the Camino Frances

My wife and I walked the Baztan in 2019. This Camino route hooks up with the Camino Frances at Trinidad de Arre. It's not widely travelled but it's sufficiently waymarked, there are albergues, and it's a stunning walk, absolutely gorgeous. It's a three to four day walk depending on how you want...

OBSOLETE COVID THREAD What happens If one has a Positive test!

The isolation is not about one being sick, it’s about one being contagious and ensuring the virus doesn’t get passed along. The contagion period is assumed to be 10 to 14 days, I believe. Even if one has been vaccinated there’s still a chance that one could contract the virus and not show...

Should we expect Albergue rates to go up this year?

"Nothing will be more expensive but much will be less cheap." Well said. Thank you.
