    Photos of Lisbon in Lockdown

My wife and I were there on this same day . We were spending February in Cascais and then left for 3 weeks going north and onward to PORTO after a few stops . While in COIMBRA I saw that yellow shell for the Camino . It reminded me of my Camino in 2015 and how it instantly reminded me of my...

Iberia Air - from US to Spain

Give yourself plenty of time at Madrid airport for return to USA. It is a big airport and takes time . IBERIA is a decent airline and have used them from Boston for work and the Camino.

Sarria to Santiago an honest account from a first time pilgrim

Very well put ! For me it was about challenging myself at my later age and meeting people , seeing Spain's countryside and enjoying the freedom of movement . I went on to live in southern Spain for a period of time directly after my camino . What did Fluffy expect when crossing the Pyrenees ...

Sarria to Santiago an honest account from a first time pilgrim

The reality ( did this 9/15/15 ) is that time / money restraints make this stretch doable before total commitment to the whole camino. It may be crowded at times but there is time for yourselves and great to meet people from everywhere . DON'T worry about "negative comments " it's about your...

Questions from a potential first timer

I did Sarria/Santiago in 2015 and had the same time schedule ( from Boston ) . My biggest regret was I did not allow enough time to " smell the roses " . It is not a race ! Leave NYC behind and jump into the International arena of pilgrims and Galicia's natural beauty . I flew to Madrid , took...

Walking Poles- Emperors new clothing in stick form ?

Definitely poles saved my Camino as I had knee pain which I did not anticipate . It's a personal choice otherwise . You don't HAVE to use them but good just in case . I did not hear any "clicking" and very easy to put rubber tips on . Obviously this post was annoying to a person easily annoyed .

    Knee Health

Poles were the reason I could finish . Not the reason for pain . Without the use of poles , I may have quit .

    Knee Health

All posts here are good advice . At 68 yrs old I did all of what was good prep . However , I did not anticipate the knee pain I had . I had hip replacement five years previous and that was fine .I finished with knee pain and poles were the reason . Did not know about Mueller's straps but will...

    Medical Help in Spain

Travel Insurance is complicated in most cases . What type did you buy ?

Don't walk the Camino, unless it's your Way

Good post ! I did Camino last Sept. with no expectations and only to experience this journey thru northern Spain . Spiritual Athlete has some constructive remarks but I don't agree with some negative reflections , but that's all they are . I never considered the " business " perspective however...

    September-October Camino?

Only did Sarria-Santiago in mid September 2015 but found weather was very comfortable in Galicia. Mornings were foggy and about 45 degrees until sun came out and 70 degrees on average . Prepare for rain however and wonderful countryside . Breathe it all in !

FICS Forum: Why Change the 100 km. rule to 300 km.?

Dropping the certificate and having your stamped passport works for me and good idea . The SARRIA starting point for me was more about trying out the Camino , time , and health after coming from USA and not about any certificate . Having visited all our national parks , which are truly awesome ...

    sarria to santiago

Did this route last September. Challenging hills in some places and gravel along some paths . Negative is the trails along side of roads which is not too scenic. Plenty of cafes and small villages so food and water are no problem. I put Vaseline on my feet every morning and wore trekking...

    How steep is steep?

Trained for uphills , no problem . Downhills were very tough on knees and caused pain I had to live with. Poles really helped
