Should I bring my own Mercado bag?

I had a bag I used for many things. Mostly mercado purchase, and taking things to the shower. It was great and I was glad I had it.

    Storage in Albergues?

How do you charge your phone if you can't leave it unattended? Last camino, I charge it at night while I was sleeping.

Pocket coin pouch for those EU coins?

Interesting question. I use a typical money belt that goes around my waist, under my clothes, that I literally wear every minute that I am not in the shower. So many are having issues with pick pockets, getting things stolen from backpacks while they sleep, etc. My belt has a larger opening...

    Musical instruments on the Camino.

We had a few delightful musicians on our Camino in 2017. One gentleman had a ukulele and he played it some evenings. The municipal albergue in Granon had guitars available. I would say you would be welcome to play anytime (before bedtime :). Jane

    Pack weight question

You still have time to adjust. You only need one day outfit and one night outfit because you do laundry every day. Also, you do not need to fill your water bladder. I typically put one liter in each day. There are countless water stations all along in the little villages. Enjoy!

Help! Pack too heavy! — CF Sept & Oct — Senior Woman

I hiked the Camino Frances in 10 September/17 October 2017. My knee replacement was in Oct 2016. Although the temps cool a little into October, not enough to warrant two seasons of clothing. I had one day outfit and one night time outfit. I washed my day clothes everyday upon arriving at the...

Safety for pre-dawn starts on the Camino Frances

I agree with others on lack of crime. You may be surprised by the temps and not feel the need to leave that early. Your biggest issue will be missing the arrows and heading in a wrong direction.

    Making friends on the camino

Two of my favorite members of our Camino family were Anders in his late 20s and Judith who had just turned 18 and graduated from high school. Both of them walked with my friend and I, each 59, and we share the greatest stories and wisdom back-and-forth. I think you will meet people of all ages...

    slow paced Itinerary-camino frances

I personally feel it is a mistake to make your route before even getting to St Jean. Everyday is an adventure to be explored and enjoyed. We walked 15-19 mile days, and one day stopped after 11 miles because we saw a sign for an albergue, Casa Magica. How could we NOT stop. So we ended our...

    Medical emergencies on the trail

You will be fine. I took a tough fall, hitting my head on a rock, just after coming down from the Climb after Castrojerez. I was in need of stitches and an ambulance. More camino angels than I could count stopped and cared for me, others called an ambulance, and one man actually ran after the...

Best towns to take two nights on CFrances

We got great advice from our American Pilgrims on the camino group. They recommended an extra day in Pamplona. This would be about day 5. It is a great city to explore, great food, and a good place to simply rest after a few long days. After that - listen to your body. Our only other rest...

    Rest days

We received some great advice from the American Pilgrims group while planning our trip. They recommended one rest day in Pamplona. It is a great place to visit, some fun sights, and a good rest after your first few days. After that - stop when you feel you need a rest. We stopped early a...
