Nicknaming the People You Walk With

My daughter and I tended to refer to people between ourselves according to their nationality. There was Philipino who we met on our first day, came across on and off, then met on our last day just out of Santiago. Big yankee guy was a colorful presence and our favourite, Asia lady. She did not...

    I'm so discouraged!

I loved my hiking sandals. On two Caminos I developed blisters walking into Astorga and on the second occasion I bought some hiking sandals. I have worn them ever since. There are two problems, mud of course, and when walking on stony paths tiny pebbles work their way between sandal and sock. I...

Sarria to Santiago the last week in July

Thanks for the replies. Just to explain a bit more, she will be in Spain for 6 weeks study purposes. Her dates are fixed but she would like to experience some of the Camino with the view of returning to do more next year. Her concern with the number of people is in regards to accommodation, she...

Sarria to Santiago the last week in July

I have a friend who wants to walk for a week on Frances during the last week in July. She will be travelling from Malaga so logistically a flight to Santiago where she can leave her suitcase, bus to Sarria, then walk back would seem the easiest. However she is concerned about the number of...

Quote from, "Go Slow, Plan Little, Walk Forever" - by Jerry Meyers

I’d like to give an alternate point of view in support of the early risers. I am an early morning person, in my 60’s. I am at my best when I first wake. On Camino I get up and out of the dormitory as quickly as I can so I don’t disturb the sleepers, and there probably is a sense of urgency to my...

Where to Find Walking Poles in Leon - Borrowing Options

I guess this shows that using the pronoun 'their' can be of benefit!

Where to Find Walking Poles in Leon - Borrowing Options

It is obvious from his original post that he has done at least one previous Camino. Further on he says he wouldn’t dream of going poleless. I am therefore assuming this decision was based on experience and not because someone told him he should.

Where to Find Walking Poles in Leon - Borrowing Options

I believe we have wandered from the thread of this post which is about the availability of poles in Leon. I don’t understand why people feel the need to comment on whether poles are needed on the Camino. These comments are nothing to do with the original post and can make people feel judged.

Parador resumes the “free meal” tradition

I’d be interested to hear your definition of riff raff

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

I agree, a little more understanding from some on this thread would be appreciated

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

This is me exactly and I totally agree, how do you ‘train’? It takes an hour of walking to get things moving for me, and once they are on the move I need to go now! No amount of sitting on the loo and straining will produce results, and is medically inadvisable anyway. We just all need to do the...

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

I totally understand the point of the thread and Trecile’s post. I agree with sentiments expressed. I always use bar or cafe facilities and I always purchase something. Trecile was baffled and I was just commenting, maybe my reply didn’t appear as polite as I intended. I can sometimes get one...

How do you "relieve yourself" when a toilet is not available?

Then you are very lucky. The time may come, as it did with me, when you don’t have as much control over the frequency or urgency of the call of nature as you would like.

LIVE from the Camino Primitivo - Sep 5, 2022

I will be interested to see how you go off stage. I want to do shorter days which would mean going off stage sometimes but it doesn’t appear to be as easy to do that as on Frances
