we would agree with that statement. There were still quite a number of walkers on the VDLP in Apr-Jun 2023, but many did not or were not walking the entire camino, just doing parts of it with the time they had available. Many end their walk in Astorga, or Salamanca, or Merida. We walked from...
Hi @Jillcat
My wife and I walked the VDLP from 26 April 2023 departing Seville and arriving at Oviedo on 5 July, just on 900 km. We planned for an average of 18-22km per day, walked the entire route. We stopped often to look at places off the camino and have a rest day or two. However, we had...
Having just completed VDLP and San Salvador a week ago with variable days and temps, just go and adapt your day as it comes. If it gets too hot, spend a day resting up or walk shorter distances on the day. That is how we managed over the last two months. You dont have to be a slave to guide...
We are on the camino now at the forgettable village, and rather questionable hygiene in the bar, of Valverde de Valdelacasa after taking the Via Verde through Hervas to Puerto de Bejar. This rail trail is easy going and beats walking on the road with traffic. We also noted those who left the...
Hi Robin
Good to see that you will also be on VDLP. Tips are aplenty on this forum.
As mentioned above, there are good guide books/apps which will provide all the answers you are looking for. For such a journey, there are no real short cuts in the planning stage, which is also a big part of the...
We will be a few days behind you and wont be walking such great daily distances either only because we want to spend more time looking at things along the way. No need to rush for us...such a long way to get there as it is.
Well done Alan. Such an interesting and very different walk and one that may hopefully become more popular. Many thanks for allowing us to share your trials and tribulations along the way from Huelva. Great inspirational reading. We really enjoyed following your route on mapy.cz to see where you...
You are so close to Santiago now which will sadly soon mean the end to your daily literary masterpieces. Safe travels and we will raise a glass to honour your peripatetic roaming when you arrive at your destination. So much to explore and so little time do so.
That may be so, but the New Zealand drivers would be a close second. We have made such an art form out of bad and dangerous driving, it has become part of the kiwi culture.
We follow your detailed journey with great interest, checking your path on mapy and we look forward to our daily fix of...
Great to follow your travels, we really appreciate the effort you make each day to post your highlights. We follow your walk on various maps and of course Google Earth to get a sense of where you have wandered along the trail. A winter trip has its challenges with the cloud and rain. Hang on to...
Alan, many thanks for your posts on your journey, they made good reading. I am rather surprised that this late in October that the temperatures are still in the mid 30s, tough walking indeed in the dehesa. But this has been an exceptional year for weather records everywhere Also many thanks for...
Thank you, I found the download button where I wasn't looking. Accommodation options are certainly not abundant but I am sure they will welcome the foot traffic. A number of places prefer a call two days before arrival so they can prepare for your arrival. Plan ahead before you walk!
