Buying bus / train tickets in Spain

Check that you have cash to purchase the Tarjeta Dorada, I was not allowed to purchase the Tarjeta on my credit card with the rail ticket in 2019, although that may have been changed since then and I haven't had a Tarjeta Dorada since then.

Camino tracks showing in Google Earth (GE): How to get them?

Do not look back unless you want to go there. (I {WHBM} would add "one needs to look back to see where you have come from before you can know where you are going")

    Guernica - Bilbao

In Sept 2022 I walked from Guernica to the interesting Basque town of Larabetzu, I was a fit 81 year old and found the day quite hard and with the following day to Bilbao and the climb over the ridge and down to sea level hard and would have been impossible for me to have done it all in one day...

Stuck in Paris! Help a first time pilgrim get to SJPDP

The French train strikes on 27th Sept 2022 resulted in my ticket to Bayonne being changed to Bordeaux arriving at 2200 and an ALSA bus from the back of Bordeaux Station at 0600 the next day to Bayonne, and the station closes at 2400, so standing around outside from 2400 to 0600, The AlSA bus...

Up to date senior discount for trains?

I have used the Tarjeta Dorada (Gold Card) a lot since 2000 and was always told that it had to be paid for in CASH before buying any tickets with it, It had to be renewed each year by the same means in Spain.

LIVE from the Camino Voie de la Nive - Day to Day

Excelent writing, I find it most useful and will certainly use it, with shorter distance advice. I agree about the French rural cuisine, I loved it on the GR10 from Hendaye to StJPdP in 2000 and look forward to it again!

LIVE from the Camino Voie de la Nive - Day to Day

I look forward to your journey to StJPdP along the Nive. I am hoping to do it as a warm up for StJPdP to Roncesvalle in Sept/Oct 2022, it looks a lot better than the GR10 I walked in 2000 to StJPdP and with an Auberge!

A 600-Mile Recreational Trail Is Coming to the West’s Sierra Nevada

I have walked in the Nevada City / Truckee area in the 1990's and just like the Camino Frances you are going to meet a lot of interesting characters, Bears! Are you prepared for them?

    Lightweight camping gear

Barbara, Yes planning as such but for when? I want to finish from Leon to Finisterra, but the numbers of walkers on the Frances is off-putting. and there is so much fantastic walking and facilities on the different caminos that it is difficult to choose which to do! and the people, and food, !

    Lightweight camping gear

I used a Vango Hogan on the GR10 from Henday to SJPDP in 2000, still being manufactured today but pricey £200 to £350, weight 1.8 Kg but roomy for 1 and comfortable. I am going to carry it on my next camino towards Santiago due to my not liking to have no reliable shelter and prefering to not...

    Trial Run

Try walking the GR10 from Hendaye to StJPdP, it gets you gently into walking longer stages and with good accommodation, I started there in 2000 and met peregrinos in StJPdP who told me about the Camino Frances. I walked English Long distance paths every year to 2015. In June 2016 I walked from...
