Say hello, see if they speak your language. If not just move on after a departing smile, otherwise you'll soon work out each other's walking pace and privacy requirements. Some very long and lonely stretches on VDLP so company would generally be accepted !
The Camino will still be there for you. Everybody has had to change plans over the past 4 years - you're not special in that regard ! So I wouldn't take this as a "message" at all. I recently had to cancel a Camino at short notice because of a dental condition that couldn't be put off and I'm...
You are I'm sure aware that a very large number of commercial enterprises along the Caminos use that name as part of their business plan, so calling something "Camino" this, that or the other hardly qualifies as proving anything. I had hoped not to see sarcasm such as yours on this site. I have...
Apart from Asturias almost none of these pieces has anything to do with the vast majority of Caminos! You need to look to either the more Celtic nature of Asturian and Galician music with their preponderance for bagpipes and bouzouki, or the medieval hymns and church music actually composed for...
My thoughts precisely. Much more appropriate selection in your final paragraph. The Spanish guitar and flamenco has much great music but people are mistaken if they think it's "Camino music". Keep it for the Costas !
It may interest you that the guitar is not the "national instrument" of Northern Spain. Fine if you're doing the de la Plata or Mozarabe but if you're on the del Norte and feel the need to have regionally appropriate music you need to start looking for gaita - bagpipe music. Loads of it there -...
Hi. Having walked the 200 km Santiago - Fisterra - Muxia - Santiago I can tell you that the authorities will NOT let you count any stage starting in Santiago ! Your friend will have to start his distance calculation from Negreiro and say he/she started there. I'm assuming that trip is doable by...
Hi ! I will leave the recommending of routes to our Norwegian friend but you may be disappointed to hear that some of thr high level and indeed not so hi-level routes cannot be walked at any time other than the warmest because snow hasn't melted ! Unless you can ski ! The Lofoten islands have...
Thanks for your articulate and honest account of your experience. We had the exact same problem. I have done over a dozen Caminos but the last 3 or 4 have been very solitary and I wasn't prepared for what the Del Norte has become. My girlfriend wanted to do a week or so on Camino so we started...
Can I recommend the Camino dos Faros - it's an 8 day walk from Malpica to Finisterre that passes through Muxia but sticks to the coast so you have the chance to swim and walk and still have enough time to walk to Santiago and if you get a credencial in Muxia you can pick up another Compostela...
Superb scenery ! Splendid isolation. Saw deer 8 mornings in a row. Some long mornings with no breakfast. Some great local volunteers only too eager to help. Went from Alicante to Burgos. Nearly had the route to myself. Well marked, though El Cid markers almost totally replace de la Lana ones for...
I unfortunately went 7 or 8 days where there was nowhere to get coffee before close to midday. You may also have to wait in a couple of smaller towns 'til 9 am opening as there aren't enough pilgrims to justify (in their minds) opening bars before then !
Hi Laurie - one thing to be aware of. When I did De la Lana a couple of years back there were several instances where there were bar/cafes listed BUT nowhere was it stated that some of these dont open until evening. Not much use if you want breakfast. It's not much of an exaggeration to claim...
