Will put your start date as the 5th I can change it later if you wish? If you hope to stay at Orisson you should firm up your plans and book ASAP it gets full! If you don't plan on staying there you can be more flexible.

Hello Denis and wife! Caroline of Express Bourricot collects two people at airport -- maybe you? -- just before me at the Bayonne train station ~ 5:30 pm. I look forward to meeting you both, there or in St. Jean or while walking. I apologize in advance for any silly effects of my jet/train-lag from west coast USA to Paris to Bayonne!

Hi and welcome Kcs9 and Richard! Will put you down for 15th on the list but I can easily change if needed? You should definitely firm up plans and book Orisson as soon as possible. Don't worry that when you try to book you don't get an immediate reply, it's not a conventional booking system it can take over a week for a reply, I am having to spend an extra day in St Jean, No Hardship!
Yes there are a few Facebook groups but nothing as extensive as this Forum. There is a page I joined today for September pilgrims which has about 130 people on it but I couldn't see a list like the one I have created so that you can work out who you may meet and share transport with etc.

Hi I just took a look at the SNCF website and there are 2 trains a day from Bayonne to St Jean. 11.10 and 18.06. Part of this journey is by bus as some of the tracks are under maintainance. So you can make St Jean on the 7th with plenty of time but will have a wait in the railway station.
Another alternative is to contact Caroline at Express Bouricott and ask if she has a minibus running that has places and would suit you better. More time in St Jean!

A question about taking the "Renfro" from Barcelona to Pamploma. Is this the train or something different? I found Renfe but not Renfro. We should arrive in the a.m. and I am thinking that that should be enough time to get over to Pamploma. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

My husband, Peter, and me will be leaving from St. Jean on Sept 15th. Our first camino! We will be arriving from Portland OR via Paris to Bairritz airport on Sept 13th and hopefully a train/bus from there. We stay two days at a B&B in SJPDP, then head out on Sept 15th. We may be contacting Caroline to see if the train doesn't work out.

I did and would again,the evening meal and craic was one of the main highlights of my last Camino.

Hi and welcome to you both. I just took another look at the SNCF website, there are 3 train/bus services in September. 07.14am, 11.10am and 18.06.
Don't forget you have to have enough time to get to Bayonne from Biarritz airport by bus just outside airport, approx 30 mins.
Caroline is very helpful, my plane lands at 17.30 on the 17th. I don't feel I will have enough time to pick up luggage and get to the station in time so I have booked a van with Caroline. Another alternative is to get a taxi several of which are waiting outside the airport, I did this last time cost about 25 euros each for 3 sharing and we were in St Jean in about an hour! Those french drivers sure drive fast!!!

Hi Margaret, of course its no problem.
Orisson does not have a conventional booking system in that you can't get an instant response like most other places. You contact them and they respond up a week later and beyond. When I booked I had to try 2 methods before I got a response. The e-mail address is www.refuge-orisson.com and refugeorisson@wanadoo.fr
Eventually they send you a booking form and you pay via Paypal. I wanted to stay the 18th or 19th. They gave me the 19th so I thought the 18th may be full but I have since heard from KLynn that she has booked for herself an 2 friends on the 18th. I have sent 2 e-mails trying to change my date??? If I can't I will spend an extra day in St Jean (no hardship!)
St Jean has a lot of accommodation, do you have a Brierley guide? lots of advice in there also you will find a file on this forum where you can print out all alberges on the Camino Frances. Or you will be given one at the Pilgrim's Office in St Jean along with a simple elevation map.
I have decided to stay at Gite Ultreia this time and I will be there on the 17th and probably 18th. Last time I stayed at the alberge now known as Beilari, it's lovely,
and directly opposite Pilgrim's office, I just wanted a different experience this time. Both places you can book in English they are used to having many pilgrim's that are a little unsure of themselves and will do everything they can to help.
Perhaps we can arrange to meet in St Jean a little nearer the time? Where are you coming from? Are you arriving on the 17th? I have an Express Bouricott van booked for 17.30 at Biarritz airport.

I would also recommend the new CaminoApp that has been developed by Ivar, I believe it is more up to date than guidebooks due to the ease of updating digitally rather than waiting for the next publication to come out? I have put it on my i-phone and look forward to using it. Pilgrims can leave comments on how they found the alberge to be.

I am due to arrive in SJPDP on Aug 31st at 6:30pm and was trying to find a place to stay for a couple of nights to get over jet lag before starting on Sept 2nd. Since I only decided do to this a few weeks ago I am afraid I have left things a bit late for booking a place to stay. I have tried a few places recommended in the guide books and all are full. Does anyone have some recommendations?

I will arrive in Biarritz on 16 September and spend the night. Then somehow get to Saint Jean on the 17th. I was thinking of taking the bus or train.
I do have the Brierley guide. But it is in California and I am in Michigan until the third week of August. Since you have recommended Ivar's guide I will upload it onto my phone and see what I can discover.
I will see if there is room at the Beilari.

Beilari, Gite Ultreia, Le Chemin Vers L'Etoille, Auberge de Pelerin, Alberge Azkorria, Refuge Esponda..... Checking hotels for you... Wow even the hotels in St Jean look like they're mostly full?
I recommend using Booking.com they will show availability and how many rooms left. I have yet to use Ivar's Camino places app, in the past I have used WisePilgrim very successfully. From Biarritz you need to get to Bayonne railway station by bus or walk depending on where you are staying then take the train/bus to St Jean at 07.15 or 11.10 0r 18.06.

I'm hoping this is true? All of the hotels in the area make a great living out of the Pilgrims and I hope they are helpful there seem to be a couple that are less than a kilometer away?

I still keep in touch (Facebook and e-mail) with people that I met on both trips, as does my son who walked in 2013. Camino people are lovely, warm, helpful and genuinely caring people in my experience.

Susan, I'm hoping to start on the 8th from SJPP and just turning 60 - from the mountains east of Pittsburgh. Buen Camino and perhaps I'll run into your group. I'm taking the chicken bus to the Vierge d'Orisson and staying in Roncesvalles the first night.
