We are an informal group who meet in Sydney on a monthly basis. Meetings are at 7.00pm on the 1st Wednesday of the odd months (i.e. January, March, May ...) and at noon on the 1st Saturday of the even months (i.e. February, April, June ...).

All prospective pilgrims and returned pilgrims are most welcome. For more information and for location of the meetings please see http://www.pilgrimsinsydney.org/

Julie

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
The next gathering of the Pilgrims in Sydney will be at noon next Saturday, 1 February 2014.

The meeting will be in the Sir John Young Hotel on the corner of George and Liverpool Streets, Sydney. No need to register, just turn up and spend an enjoyable afternoon speaking Camino.

For more about our group, see http://www.pilgrimsinsydney.org/

Things have been a bit crazy in my world lately so apologies for the extremely late post about our meeting TONIGHT.

We've outgrown our previous meeting place and at 7.00pm tonight will be meeting in the dining room on the 2nd level of the City of Sydney RSL Club, 565 George Street, Sydney (the Club is a few doors towards Central from the intersection with Liverpool Street). As is usual, there is no need to register to attend.

For a map of the location and more information about our group see our website http://www.pilgrimsinsydney.org/

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Our next meeting is at noon this Saturday 5 April, 2014. The City of Sydney RSL Club (565 George Street, Sydney) proved to be a good venue so will be our home for the foreseeable future.

There is no need to inform us of your intention to attend, just turn up and spend an enjoyable couple of hours speaking Camino. Your home support team is also welcome - bring them along so they can see that very ordinary people hear and succumb to the Camino call.

Our next meeting is on Saturday 7 June at the City of Sydney RSL Club, 565 George Street, Sydney. There is a map and dates for our future meetings on our website http://www.pilgrimsinsydney.org/

We trialled a new system last month and will be following the same formula for our next meeting. The starting time for new pilgrims is 11.30am with experienced pilgrims or those who have attended one of our previous gatherings starting at 12.30pm. New pilgrims will be having an information session with time for questions before joining the rest of the group.

There is no need to register.

Great to met you again today Julie along with so many other Pilgrims. As 'Newbies' it is certainly really helpful to talk to some of the experienced Pilgrims.

Something I meant to ask today, was for some tips on training walks around Sydney. We have tried a few Bushwalks down around Bowral but they were rather 'up and down' through gorges. Bit like going up and down staircases. (Even had stone steps)

Any tips on good training walks from Sydney pilgrims would be most appreciated. The local streets get boring after a while!

My apologies for not posting a reply to this question. I've been where you would expect me to be at this time of year - on the Camino. This time only a couple of weeks on the Camino del Norte and then my first stint as a hospitalera at Rabanal.

"Up and down" is fantastic preparation! In fact any bushwalk is good because the terrain is usually more difficult than anything you are going to meet on the Camino Frances. Preparation for my annual Camino walking has only ever been to go bushwalking once a week. I usually carry some weight in my pack when I walk so that it's not a big shock to the system when I'm on pilgrimage.

To find out which walks are convenient to you, check out the Wildwalks website http://www.wildwalks.com/bushwalking/general/bushwalking.html Joining a club makes for an enjoyable social activity as well as taking you to areas you may not consider otherwise. Clubs in the Sydney area can be found on http://www.bushwalking.org.au/Sydneyclubs.html

A reminder to everyone in the Sydney area that our next meeting is at noon this Saturday, 2 August at the City of Sydney RSL Club, 565 George Street, Sydney. There is a map on our website http://www.pilgrimsinsydney.org/location-map.html There is no need to register, just turn up and enjoy talking about all things Camino.

Thank you Julie and the rest of the pilgrims in Sydney for a great time last night. Ray and I felt very welcome and it was most helpful for our forthcoming Camino. I was a reluctant pilgrim but after hearing your talk last night and talking to Sam, Narelle, Geoff, Frank and others, I got very excited to the extent that I could hardly sleep last night thinking about the trip. Muchos gracias!!!

Buen Camino Pura!

This sounds just what we need, I need questions answered regarding the time we plan to go, I am so concerned how hot, business and getting accomadation during our plan 24th may leave st Jean and arrive 5th July.

Many thank you's to our new pilgrim Robo for this information:

For those who miss Spanish Food and get withdrawal symptoms, I recently found a little Gem, that perhaps some of you know about already.

A small Spanish small goods company based in Sydney that has a 'factory outlet' type shop attached to it. Meats, cheeses, canned goods, great olives! http://www.rodriguezbros.com.au/ Some yummy 'authentic' products some made locally some imported.

And they also stock........Paella Pans and Burners!!! :D

Ours had a trial for a family lunch recently....

@Saint Mike II, other than this doesn't seem to be remotely connected to the topic of this thread, I thought that the forum rules precluded boosting commercial posts like this by repeating them in other parts of the forum.

Meetings are held on the 1st Saturday of every month - 11:30am for the new pilgrim introductory session and 12:30pm for those who have already been on the Camino as well as those who have previously attended one of our meetings.

Back in 2017, I said that Pilgrims in Sydney meetings are never cancelled but COVID-19 had not then come into our lives. We have been meeting on a monthly basis since 2006 but will be suspending future meetings until further notice.

Life without a 1st Saturday of the month pilgrim fix is difficult to comprehend. I suspect I won't be the only teary-eyed pilgrim trawling through Camino photos and videos with wine in hand.

Oh Julie - this is very disappointing but it’s the safest course of action under the circumstances. I can only imagine how reluctant you and Sandra were to have to suspend the meetings. Our meetings keep the Camino alive for all of us (thanks to Norelle who first quoted this lovely sentiment). Stay safe and well everyone.

What crazy times we live in. Take care everyone.

Love to all of you. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones. I have tried to stock my store cupboards with happy memories, kindness, friendships, good music - and lots of craft activities!

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
To bring everyone up to date - the group is once again meeting on the first Saturday of each month in the Cheers Bar, George Street, at lunchtime. Further information on the group is on the website here.
