Time of past OR future Camino
First timer, walking endAugust-October.
Hey everyone!!
I'm starting my camino trip the end of August. Starting in SJPDP going to Santiago and then continuing on to Fisterra.
But I'm having some trouble with my pack. I have an Osprey Kyte 36 pack. Maybe I'm packing it wrong or it doesn't fit me right. I find it doesn't disperse the weight very well! A lot of the weight is on my shoulders. When on, it feels like the top part of the pack is leaning back off my shoulders. I tighten the shoulder straps and it feels good on my shoulders but I think it might be to high on my hips. How high is to high?

Im also looking for and advice on my packing list.
So...
Osprey pack + 3l blatter
Trail runners
Rain jacket
Silk insert
Tek towel s
MEC half zip pull over/long sleeve
2 quick dry T shirts
3 smart wool socks
3 underwear
2 sports bra
1 short
1 pant
1 thin yoga pant/pj pants
Dehydrated shampoo/body soap
Toothbrush/past
Brush
Deodorant and
Medical kit.
Sunscreen

Add or subtract from this. Any advice is welcome. Especially in regards to my pack!!
Thanks :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Sorry just a quick question: have you tightened the load lifter straps, the ones at the top of the pack fastened on the shoulder straps? It can make a huge difference!

One thing leaps out at me and that is the 3l water bladder=3kg=6.6lbs. That is a lot of extra weight and I have found that a little disposible bottle is sufficent and over a large portion of the Frances you can get coffee, tea, coke etc every few Km. On more personal note I have found ponchos and an ultra light-weight jacket to be a good balance cand you may be surprised at how cold it can be first thing in the morning.

I would strongly recommend taking your pack into an outdoor gear store and asking them to help you fit it correctly, if you have one anywhere near you. Or if you can't do that, check out the Osprey website - they have instructions and a video that show you how to adjust the pack correctly - check out this page: http://www.ospreypacks.com/en/web/sizing_and_fitting. It definitely doesn't sound as though it's been properly adjusted for you. The hip belt should be sitting over (as in around, not above) your hip bones. Any higher and it isn't going to do its job and distribute the weight of the pack down your legs - this would certainly make it feel as though the weight was mainly on your shoulders. When I put on my pack the first thing I position and fasten is the belt, then I adjust the shoulder straps once that is sitting correctly. If it isn't comfortable now it will be very uncomfortable walking and may cause injury. Don't worry - you'll get it sorted, and now is the time to figure all this out. Good luck!

There's a very good recent thread about 'my packing list after finishing the e CAMINO'.Something like that. It's by Sore Necuial. (Hope I got that) Click the blue box "Pack list" below and you'll find it.
Buen Camino

Your packing list looks fine.
The 3L of water is WAY too much if you're walking the Camino Frances.
Personally, I think a 36L pack is too large to carry for the short list you have.

There is good fresh available water all along the route, and an 8 ounce bottle is all I ever carry.
Pack the heaviest things on the bottom and the lightest on the top.
And I agree - take the pack to a sporting goods store and ask them to help you adjust it.
If it still doesn't feel right, better to change packs here than to have to do it on the Camino.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Thanks so much for all the advice. I did take it to an outdoor store to be adjusted. I haven't found a store around me yet that measures and does a full fitting but I have one more place to try. ☺️Thanks again

I agree the bladder seems a bit too large and may feel too heavy in long days. I travelled with a 600ml bottle.

Have you weighed your pack also with documents/guidebook/cellphone+charger? They are not on your list and may get a bit heavy.

Besides that, looks excellent! Good job keeping it simple! :D
